Jobs for Teenagers in New Jersey

If it’s been on your mind or theirs we’re here to help. I can remember having my first job at 13 or 14 years old. As a teenager, I had a newspaper route, shampooed hair at a salon, and worked retail in a number of different shops. Many jobs that existed for teenagers then no longer exist today or they have different age requirements.

I realize that when our teenagers hit 18 years old they can pretty much get a job anywhere. The challenge is when they are 14, 15, or 16 years old. Where can they get a job? How can they get to work if they don’t drive?

We’ve tried to address both the questions in this blog post. We start with suggesting jobs and businesses that hire teenagers. We’ll break it down by age. Then, we’ll introduce ways to get to a job that doesn’t rely on mom and dad doing the driving. When you start to think about it, there really are a lot of options.

Then we talk more specifically about jobs for teenagers in New Jersey. Not just summer jobs for teenagers but also jobs that are available all year round. More Jobs for Teenagers in New Jersey

When it comes to looking for jobs for teenagers don’t stop with this list. The above age listings may be flexible. Some age requirements might be set by law, but others may be flexible. If your teen is more mature than other teens their age, they may be able to get hired for positions usually reserved for older teens.

Also, keep in mind not all positions are advertised publicly. If your teen loves the beach and boardwalk, tell them to walk the boardwalk and look for help wanted signs. Or if there’s a shop or restaurant they really like, it doesn’t hurt to stop in and ask if the business is hiring.

The same can be said for downtown districts or villages. Historic Smithville, Downtown Hammonton, Downtown Haddonfield all have shops, cafes, and restaurants, that might be looking for temporary or more permanent help. The businesses may not be hiring as many teens as the employers listed above, but if the business even just needs one employee, that business might be willing to hire your teenager.
