We originally published our listing of New Jersey Free Outdoor Movies for families in 2011, but we update this annually for Jersey Family Fun readers. We are currently updating this for 2023.

Summer is the season for the outdoors. With warm weather and no school, there are many more opportunities to get outside. One of the ways our families like to spend time outside is by watching outdoor movies. There is just something great about sitting outside on a warm summer night and watching a movie under the stars. I’m so glad free outdoor movies in New Jersey are back for this summer.

This summer gives us the opportunity to catch up on what we missed. So many towns offer free kid-friendly outdoor movies in New Jersey. Free outdoor movies are held in neighborhood parks, at farms, and on the beaches. Here is a list of where and when you can find cheap and free outdoor movies throughout New Jersey this summer. Free Horseshoe Lake Curbside Cinema in Roxbury in Morris County

The Horseshoe Lake Curbside Cinema movies are played on a big screen right out on the beach. It is free for all residents and non-residents. A snack stand is open before and throughout the whole movie so be sure to get some tasty snacks. The Horseshoe Lake Curbside Cinema movies are played at Horseshoe Lake in Roxbury through the end of July.

These Central Jersey beaches offer outdoor movies on the beach throughout the summer.

Belmar Movies on the Beach in Monmouth County

This summer Belmar is offering free outdoor movies on the beach, once a week from July into August. This year’s movies will be played at 7th Avenue Beach.

Movies on the Beach in Sea Girt in Monmouth County

Movies on the Sea Girt beach at dusk. The Sea Girt Summer movies will be held behind Beacon Boulevard Pavilion. There will be a movie in July and August.

Free Ocean Grove Movie Nights in Monmouth County

Free outdoor movies are being offered at the Ocean Grove pier by the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association. There will be 2 free outdoor movie nights in July and one in August.

Montclair Film Beach Screening in Atlantic City in Atlantic County

As part of the North to Shore Festival, the Montclair Film Festival is sponsoring 2 free movies at Chicken Bone Beach in Atlantic City. Both outdoor movie nights will be held in June.

Movies on the Beach in Brigantine in Atlantic County

Come for an enchanting evening under the stars at the movies on the beach, proudly presented by the Brigantine Chamber of Commerce. There will be 2 movies on 38th Street Beach in July and 2 in August.

Thrilling Thursdays in Margate in Atlantic County

Movies are shown on Beach behind the Bloom Pavilion between Granville and Huntington Avenues, between the bulkhead and dunes. Arrive at 6:30 pm for the prescreening FREE fun activity! The movie begins at 7:30 pm.

Free Beach Movies in Avalon in Cape May County

Avalon has a long-running series of summer movies on the beach. They will be held at 30th Street & the beach. They run from June till the end of August.

Free Movies on the Beach in Cape May in Cape May County

Free outdoor movies on the Cape May beach are back for the summer. Running weekly between July to late August, these free Cape May summer movies will be held next to Cape May Convention Hall at Gurney Street Beach.

Movies on the Beach in Point Pleasant in Ocean County

Free outdoor movies on the beach at Point Pleasant Beach every week this summer for you and the family! Movies start at dark, bring a blanket, kick back, and enjoy the show! The 2023 free movies in Point Pleasant Beach are shown near the Jenkinson attractions.

Movies on the Beach in Seaside Heights in Ocean County

Seaside Heights offers free outdoor movies on the beach weekly from July through August. Audience members will be seated on the Fremont Avenue beach, please bring your own beach chairs and blankets.

Hackensack Movies Under the Stars are back for the 2023 summer. Admission is free. The Hackensack Movies Under the Stars are played at Atlantic Street Park in Hackensack.

Free Movies After Dark in Mahwah in Bergen County

Mahwah is another North Jersey town offering free outdoor movies this summer. As part of the Bergen County Movies and Music in the park series, the county series will feature events at locations across Bergen County beginning in July. The Mahwah Summer Movies will be held at Darlington Lake.

Free Movies After Dark in North Arlington in Bergen County

Another stop on the Bergen County Music and Movies in the Park Summer Series is North Arlington. North Arlington will have free outdoor movies at Riverside County Park. There will be one movie in July and one in August.

Free Movies After Dark in Paramus in Bergen County

As mentioned above Bergen County hosts a movie series that takes place at different outdoor locations across the county. The Paramus summer movies will be held at Van Saun County Park. Between July and August, there will be 10 outdoor movies. Have a picnic. Ride the carousel. Play on the playground. Then, stick around for the movie of the night.

Free Movies in the Park in Westwood in Bergen County

During the Westwood NJ outdoor movies, it’s not just a free movie in the park. There’s also free popcorn. During the month of August, there will be 4 movies at Veterans Memorial Park.

Free Montclair Film Festival in Essex County

The annual series of FREE Movies Under The Stars Returns for Summer 2023! Montclair Film’s popular Summer Series kicks off at Lackawanna Plaza (near Crane Park). Each movie during the Montclair Film Festival movies is played at a different location in Montclair.

Free Moonlit Movies in South Orange in Essex County

Flood’s Hill in South Orange’s Meadowland Park is the place to be each Wednesday evening in August. Bring your blanket, your family, and your friends and enjoy the show!

Free Hudson County Movies in the Park

Hudson County hosts a series of free outdoor movies in various Hudson County parks. The outdoor movies are offered twice a week from July through August.

Free Movies Under the Stars in Hoboken in Hudson County

Hoboken New Jersey is home to THREE outdoor movie series. There will be 2 movie nights in August at Jackson Park. There is a June movie night at Northwest Resilience Park and Pier A Park is home to movies in June, July, and August.

Free Summer in the City – Summer Fest in Jersey City in Hudson County

Jersey City’s, Mayor Steven M. Fulop, the Jersey City Municipal Council and the Office of Cultural Affairs are pleased to present Summer in the City, a free recurring concert series that brings live music and film to each corner of Jersey City. This series offers free, outdoor screenings of popular films in nearly every public park across Jersey City.

Tuesday Night Outdoor Movies in North Bergen in Hudson County

North Bergen free movies in the park begin at sundown. Not only is the movie free but there is free popcorn and water as well. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy. The North Bergen Summer Movies will be held at various locations, from July through the end of August.

Free Summer Movies in the Park in Mendham in Morris County

Mendham Borough is another Northern New Jersey town offering free outdoor movies this summer. The Mendham summer movies will be held at 2 different parks. One will be a traditional outdoor movie. The other will be a drive in movie. Both are free and both happen in July.

Free Movies Under the Stars in Washington Township in Morris County

Once again the Washington Recreation Department will host 2 free movies in the park at dusk on different days this summer. One will be in June and the other in July. The Washington Movies in the Park are played at Rock Spring Park in Washington.

Free Outdoor Movie Nights in Passaic County

Passaic County Parks is hosting a series of free outdoor movies around Passaic County. Movies will rotate between 4 Passaic County towns. Movies are available throughout the summer.

Free Movies Under the Stars in Woodland Park in Passaic County

Municipal Alliance Against Alcoholism and Drug Abuse sponsors free outdoor movies this summer. Movies are shown at dusk on the Memorial School field.

Movies in the Park in Hardyston in Sussex County

Hardyston offers free outdoor movies at Wheatsworth Road Park. There will be 3 outdoor movies this August.

Movies Under the Stars in Fanwood in Union County

La Grande Park becomes a theater under the stars as the free Fanwood summer movie series begins at the end of June and continues into August. Movies begin at dusk, approximately 8 pm – 8:30 PM. Be sure to bring a blanket or a low beach chair.

Free Family Fun & Flix in Roselle in Union County

Union County’s beloved Family Fun & Flix series is back! Family fun activities for each event begin at 7:30 with a kids’ dance party, and the movies will unspool at dusk.

Free Movies in the Park in Tewksbury in Hunterdon County

The Tewksbury Township Parks Committee is pleased to announce the return of Movies in the Park at Christie Hoffman Farm Park. Gather the children, some blankets and chairs and a few snacks and come out to the park to relax and watch a movie on the big screen under the stars.

Free Mercer County Movie Nights in the Park

The Mercer County Summer Movies will be held at various parks in Mercer County. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and sealed bottles of water! The movie series runs from early August till late September.

Movies Under the Stars in Trenton in Mercer County

From June to August, the city of Trenton will be hosting free outdoor movies. The movie screenings will rotate between Trenton parks.

Free Movies in the Park in Carteret in Middlesex County

Carteret Movies in the Park will begin in early July at dusk with screenings at the Zsymborski Bandstand at Carteret Park. They will continue throughout the summer into late August.

Free Moonlight Movies in Sayreville in Middlesex County

Moonlight Movies in Sayreville are back. They happen twice this summer at Kennedy Park.

Free Family Movie Nights in South Brunswick in Middlesex County

South Brunswick free outdoor movie nights are back at Woodlot Park! Movies are held once a month in June, July, and August.

Free Movie Night at the Waterfront in Keyport in Monmouth County

Summer movies start at dusk. They play on Keyport Waterfront next to the gazebo. Bring your own chairs and blankets. There will be 4 movies this summer.

Free Movies in the Park in Manalapan in Monmouth County

Manalapan Parks and Recreation is hosting 3 summer movies this year. One in July, August, and September. Each of the movies will be held in the park at Manalapan Recreation Center.

Free Red Bank Summer Movie Series in Monmouth County

Come weekly throughout the summer for movies in the park, July through August! Movies begin at dusk. Movies are played at Riverside Gardens Park in Red Bank.

Free Summer Movie Nights in Bernards Township in Somerset County

The Bernards Township Movies in the Park will happen once in July and once in August. The Bernards Township Movies in the Park are played at Dunham Park in Bernards Township.

Free Summer Movies Under the Stars in Hillsborough in Somerset County

This summer there will also be free outdoor movies in Hillsborough at Ann Van Middlesworth Park. There will be one in June, July, and August. Registration is required.

Movies Under the Stars in Burlington County

Burlington County Parks is excited to kick off the FREE movie series with a Drive-In on Saturday, May 6th, at the beautiful Burlington County Fairgrounds. The rest of the outdoor movies will rotate between parks and attractions across the county. The outdoor movie series even extends into October.

Free Outdoor Movies in Secaucus in Hudson County

Mayor Michael Gonnelli & The Town Council present the summer movies for 2023. The free outdoor movies in Secaucus happen at two locations for these movies: Ice Rink and Xchange. Movies run from June through the end of August.

Free Big Screen Outdoor Movies in Morris Township in Morris County

Bring the whole family and your blankets and lawn chairs to Ginty Field and enjoy free big screen outdoor family movies. They are back for 2023 from June through August. Arrive an hour early for DJ music before the movie. The family-oriented features will begin at dusk; approximately 8:30 PM. The Free Movies in Morris Township are played at Ginty Field at 45 Woodland Avenue in Morristown.

Big Thursdays – Free Drive In Movie Nights in Rahway in Union County

For 2023, Rahway is bringing back free drive in movies during the month of July. The Rahway drive in movies are located at Hamilton Stage Parking Lot

Free Screen on the Green Movie Series in Summit in Union County

Screen on the Green is a free outdoor movie series in Summit, NJ. The Summit Summer Movies will be held at Village Green on select days in July and August.

As part of the experience, you are invited to interact with a few of the on-screen characters before the movie. In past years, movie-goers have enjoyed performances by Medieval Times, danced with minions from Despicable Me, Trapeze and Aerial artists from The Circus Place, and even been amazed by a 17-foot dinosaur from Field Station Dinosaurs.

The Columbian Swim Club of Union is holding unique outdoor movie nights. Dive into the pool and enjoy a great movie during July and August. There will be 4 movies in all.

Hollywood Films in Long Branch in Monmouth County

Pier Village is bringing back Hollywood Films at their Outdoor Cinema on Festival Plaza weekly in July and August. Make a reservation at a restaurant for dinner and a movie viewing spot or bring your favorite chair and blanket and relax on the grassy plaza under the stars.

Backyard Movie Night in Marlboro Township in Monmouth County

Marboro is another Monmouth County town to offer free outdoor movies to families. The Marlboro Recreation is presenting these free Backyard Movie Nights once in July and once in August.

Starlit Cinema in Downtown Somerville in Somerset County

The free outdoor movies in Somerville are played July through August starting at 8:30 pm. The 2023 Somerville Startlit Cinema Movies are played at Somerville’s Summer Stage on Division Street in Somerville.
