The River Inn by Modus Hotels, Places to Stay in Washington DC with Kids

This post was made possible by The River Inn by Modus Hotels who provided us with accommodations during my family’s recent visit. We appreciate their support of Jersey Family Fun that allows us to share with families information about family friendly Washington DC hotels we think your family may enjoy for family vacations.

The River Inn by Modus Hotels

Have you stayed at The River Inn by Modus Hotels?

Our first vacation as a family to Washington DC for our family travel series had us staying at The River Inn. The River Inn by Modus Hotels is located within minutes of Washington DC’s best attractions. This Washington DC hotel offers rooms for families as well as couples taking a weekend getaway from New Jersey. From the moment we pulled up to the front doors till when we left, we were truly impressed with the level of service and care from The River Inn’s front desk staff and bellmen. We were always greeted with a smile, doors were held open, and offers to help us were plentiful.

When we entered our River Inn hotel room, we were all thrilled with the spaciousness of the suite. To the left of the entryway, there is a large living room type space, a dining area, and a small kitchenette. In front of us was the bathroom and to the right was the bedroom with two queen beds.

For families like us with 3 or more children, you’ll appreciate the living room couch that is a sofa sleeper. At night, just convert the couch for additional sleeping. You’ll still have room to move about the suite if you need to. During the daytime the kids will have plenty of space to sit and relax, after you visit the DC attractions of course.

They wanted to get out and explore the Washington DC attractions, not pose for pictures for mom.

After bedtime, if parents want to stay up later than the kids, the bedroom is separated from the main living space with not just some distance, but also a door that closes. I always love it, when we are in a hotel room that provides a way to separate the kids from the grown ups when it’s time for the kids to rest.

The River Inn kitchenette and dining area also make it possible to keep your dining costs, while traveling, affordable. You can cook in your room using the stovetop or microwave. Please see our notes about that below. During our family vacation to Washington DC we did a little of both. We had breakfast in our room and then rotated our dinners and lunches with eating out and cooking in.

There is so much to do in Washington DC with your kids and we encourage you to take full advantage of the free attractions. The awesomeness of a Washington DC family vacation is that it does not need to be expensive. During our family trip to DC we visited 6 of the National Mall monuments, the United States Navy Memorial, the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden, the Smithsonian Visitor Center & Castle, and the National Air & Space Museum. All of those were free. They all were located within minutes of The River Inn and of each other. When we were sightseeing we used the cabs occasionally to get to our first location and then walked between them before returning to our River Inn suite in the evening.
