As part of our challenge to write about 100 New Jersey playgrounds in 100 days we bring you the details about Weehawken Waterfront Park Playground, a playground in Weehawken, Hudson County. This playground area also goes by the names of Lincoln Harbor Park playground and Linear Park playgrounds.
Where is Weehawken Waterfront Park Playground located?
This playground is located at 1 Port Imperial Boulevard, near Port Imperial Boulevard at Harbor Boulevard in Weehawken, New Jersey. The park is part of the Weehawkin park system.
What kind of playground equipment does Weehawken Waterfront Park have?
There are three main areas to this playground. A large area for older children has a slide, swings, and multiple ways to climb.
There is a toddler playground that is somewhat similar to the larger play area. There is a third area with extreme climbing equipment. We’re referring to that space as a climbing playground.
One quick thing to note, this playground may have undergone a renovation in the last few years. The picture on the Weehawkin website does not match our pictures. Our pictures were taken on June 30, 2022.
Are there swings?
There are two traditional swings at the older kids’ playground. There are no baby swings or accessible swings.
Are there slides?
There is one slide at each playground. One slide is curvy while the other slide is straight.
What special features does the playground offer?
Special features at this Weehawkin playground include climbing walls, ladders, webs, and Climbing O-rings. There are tunnels, spinners, stepping pods, and monkey bars.
There is even a variety of climbing features on the toddler playground.
Climbing Playground/Exercise Area
Between the playgrounds and the Hudson River is this impressive climbing playground and exercise area. It’s like something you might see an American Ninja Warrior use to train. Hanging circular rings, a very tall climbing rope wall, and long ropes to climb this isn’t just for older kids to challenge themselves, but for adults as well. There is other exercise equipment in the area.
What kind of ground cover does the playground have?
The traditional playgrounds have a colorful rubber ground surface. The ground surface under the climbing playground/exercise area is wood mulch.
Is the playground at Weehawken Waterfront Park accessible?
The pathways are wide and paved, but there are no accessible features on the playgrounds.
Is there shade available at Weehawken Waterfront Park?
There is shade in the tunnels but there are no play areas under the equipment. There are no pavilions or gazebos. While there are a few picnic tables and benches, the trees are not full enough to provide much shade.
Where is parking for Weehawken Waterfront Park?
There was a limited amount of free street parking. We visited the park on a particularly hot day and the playground wasn’t crowded at all, so we had no issues finding parking.
Are there restrooms at Weehawken Waterfront Park Playground?
There are some port-a-potties located in the park.

In addition to the playground at Weehawken Waterfront Park, there are additional amenities available for visitors.
Are there walking trails?
There is a beautiful Hudson River Walk, which is just steps away from the playgrounds and follows along the Hudson River. The Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy says, “The state has planned the Walkway to exist immediately adjacent to the river in a continuously connected 30 foot wide path from the tip of Bayonne to the George Washington Bridge.”
Are there fields or courts for sports?
It’s not within view of the playgrounds but there is a multi-purpose turf soccer field, two softball fields (one of which is turf), a track, three tennis courts, and a workout area.
Bonus information we want you to know about Weehawken Waterfront Park
Both playground areas and the climbing area are separate from each other. They are separated with a paved path but they are only steps away from each other. The two playgrounds are both fenced in with a gate that locks.
Weehawken Waterfront Park and Lincoln Harbor Park are pretty much in the same space. It’s hard to know where one space ends and the other begings. Both are near Weehawken Pier. Between the parks and the pier there is plenty of space to sit, relax, have a picnic, and enjoy the views. The area is even home to these Weehawken Concerts at Lincoln Harbor Park.
