Westin New York Times Square, Places to Stay in New York City with Kids

In full disclosure, we were provided with a night stay at the Westin New York Times Square to make this post possible. We appreciate their support of Jersey Family Fun’s family travel series. As always, all opinions are our own.

Westin

There’s no denying it – Times Square is the center of Manhattan! With Port Authority right there, so many restaurants and Broadway shows and easy access to subways, a hotel in Times Square is ideal for a short or long NYC stay. Luckily there’s one that offers all you want and we were fortunate to spend a night there! The Westin New York at Times Square offers clean, comfortable, rooms, dining on location, and friendly staff. It was the perfect spot for my two children, my mother and I to spend the night while exploring some New York City attractions!

Off to adventures!

Off to adventures!

I’ve lived in New Jersey my whole life, and have spent much time in New York City. Recently I realized that while my children have also spent a lot of time in New York City, they haven’t done a lot of the tourist destinations. So we acquired CityPASSes and set off to spend two days in NYC. The location of the Westin New York at Times Square could not have been better for us. Located on 8th Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street, it is directly across from the Port Authority and a major subway stop. We didn’t have a lot of luggage, so we decided to walk from Penn Station and NO ONE complained! Even better, we also walked to an event on 61st street, then to Rockefeller Center and back to the hotel with no issue. Of course you don’t need to go far for excitement, with the E Walk 200,000 square feet retail, dining and entertainment complex steps away, as well as Carlo’s Bakery, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, and BB King’s Blues Club.

When you enter the Westin, the hustle and bustle of the outside goes away. There’s a desk with security and doormen to help you if you need help, but continue up the tall escalator for check in. It’s even calmer upstairs, as you start to feel the luxury of staying in a midtown hotel. Our check in process was easy and fast, and directions to our room were perfect. We were given a room on the 14th floor which excited my children; they’d never slept up so high!

The Westin offers a variety of room sizes and offerings.  We were placed in a traditional hotel room and it was large enough for the four of us. Just take a look at our hotel room video.

My children just love hotel rooms, no matter where we are. The excitement of a different bed, a different layout, and things to explore are thrilling to them. The best part for them was the view! We didn’t have a skyline view on the 14th floor, but could see the lights of 42nd street from our comfortable window seat. There was arguing over who got to sit there first! But the most important was that our room was clean, comfortable and well lit.  We had plenty of outlets to charge our devices and the television and thermostat were easy to use. These things matter when away from the familiarities of home!

After dropping our luggage, we went right back out into the city for all our adventures. As great as a hotel is, there’s so much to do in NYC! Grandma stayed with us and she returned to the room while we visited some attractions. She let me know that some delicious treats were left in the room for us! We cut our trip short and headed back to munch on the cheese, crackers, cookies and milk! We had planned to stop for late night snacks at one of the many bakeries or convenience stores nearby, but didn’t need to! The Westin knows what families need: you can get special offers here that include movie tickets, free kids meals, and special gifts for kids.

There’s no pool at the Westin New York Times Square, but guests can access the WestinWORKOUT Fitness Center. An attractive atrium was visible from our room, which appeared to be hosting a conference. Room service is of course available, but Foundry Kitchen and Bar serves breakfast until 11 AM and light bites at the Bar, the rest of the day.

We only spent one night at The Westin New York at Times Square, but before we left we were treated to an amazingly tasty and healthy breakfast at the in house restaurant, Foundry Kitchen and Bar.  Read about our meal here – you won’t want to miss this! Checkout was easy and fast, and what a thrill to have a doorman hail a cab for us as we went on our way to our next adventure.
