Try Ice Hockey for Free Day! Where New Jersey Kids Can Try Ice Hockey for Free 2023

We first published the details on Try Ice Hockey for Free Day in 2013. We continue to update this multiple times a year as new dates are added.

In the colder months, we focus our attention on indoor sports and activities for our families. Saturday, February 25, 2023, USA Hockey and over 500 local programs across the country will encourage kids, ages 4 to 9, to come to a local participating rink and participate in a try ice hockey for free day as part of Hockey Week Across America.

New Jersey has listed locations for Try Ice Hockey for Free events (see below – this article is being updated for February 25, 2023). Be sure to register prior by visiting Try Ice Hockey For Free as all locations have a limited amount of equipment available for use. There you can find the closest participating location to you.

A few quick things to know about Try Ice Hockey for Free Day

Kids should have some comfort on the ice – there are no skating lessons that day, only hockey instruction.

Parents are not allowed on the ice.

When we attended the event years ago, we were told ice skating experience wasn’t required. However, when we visited the Flyers SkateZone in Atlantic City we discovered that since parents aren’t allowed on the ice and there is not enough staff to help all kids, my boys really were at a disadvantage. It would have been more beneficial if we had taken them ice skating a few times before attending.

Grab your coat, gloves, and hat, and bring the kids for a day full of ice hockey fun. What a great, FREE way to try something new!

As of January 31, 2023 there are only 3 confirmed locations in New Jersey participating in the Try Ice Hockey for Free Day.

Burlington County Locations

• Igloo Ice Rink – 3033 Fostertown Rd, Mt Laurel Township, NJ 08054, Saturday Afternoon

Camden County Locations

• Pennsauken Skatezone – 6725 River Road, Pennsauken, NJ 08110, Saturday Morning, confirmed for 2023. Register at https://www.tryhockeyforfree.com/event_detail/1561.
• Flyers Skate Zone – 601 Laurel Oak Road, Voorhees, NJ 08043

Essex County Locations

• Prudential Center – 25 Lafayette Street, Newark – Prudential Center’s try ice hockey day event begins at 4:30 PM.
• Clary Anderson Arena – 41 Chestnut Street, Montclair, NJ 07042 – Saturday Morning

Gloucester County Locations

• Holly Dell Ice Arena, 601 Holly Dell Drive, Sewell – Gloucester County’s try ice hockey free day event begins at 1:30 PM

Mercer County Locations

• Ice Land Skating Center, 6 Tennis Ct, Hamilton Township, NJ 08619 – Saturday Morning

Middlesex County Locations

• Proskate, 1000 Cornwall Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852 – ProSkate does not appear to be participating in the regular Try Hockey for Free Day. However, they are hosting a Girls Try Hockey for Free event on Sunday, March 13. Learn more at their website.
• Woodbridge Community Center, 600 Main Street, Woodbridge, NJ 07095 – Saturday Morning

Monmouth County Locations
