Experience a Jersey Shore Family Vacation With Luxury and Convenience!
Atlantic City – depending on your experience with the town, your impression could be any range of possibilities and likely none of them being a family destination. It’s a town filled with nightlife and gambling, but there’s no missing its greatest resource – the ocean! A free beach, with plenty of access and easy surf makes Atlantic City an unexpected option for a family getaway. There’s no lack of hotels in Atlantic City, and most are on the boardwalk. Parking is plentiful and the boardwalk has plenty of food and drink. While it’s not our usual daily beach venue, or our yearly Wildwood family vacation, we wanted to try something new. We headed to Atlantic City to start off Memorial Day weekend with a room at the Tropicana Atlantic City.
We spent some time exploring the Atlantic City Boardwalk before heading to Tropicana for the 4:00 pm check in time. We arrived slightly early and were presented with self park or valet options (both at a $10 cost). We chose valet which left us right at the hotel lobby. Carts were available for our luggage but we chose to carry our own. We entered the glittering lobby and began our Atlantic City vacation!

Despite it being a holiday weekend, check-in was fast and we were able to access our room before the official 4 pm check-in time. Tropicana is spread out over 4 towers, and we were in the newly renovated Havana Tower. The walk from the lobby was a bit far, but the sights along the way were entertaining! We walked through the casino and into The Quarter, a shopping and dining area that is a sight to see. Signs guided us to our room. At the bank of elevators to get to our room, there was a security desk (which was manned in the evening to allow only hotel guests to the guest room floors). When we reached the 67th floor (out of 68), we could barely leave the elevator area for our amazement at the view! We could see all of Atlantic City and far into the ocean! We were excited to get to our room, just steps from the elevator.

There’s so much anticipation when you enter a hotel room for the first time! Will the beds be big and comfy? Where’s the television? Even excitement over the shampoos and soaps! But just like before we entered the room, the excitement was the view! Breathtaking and certainly got us excited for the beach. We were in a Havana Tower Double Queen, which was newly renovated and included the following:
- Television
- Thermostat for heat/air conditioning
- Phone with USB plugs
- Iron/ironing board
- 2 queen beds
- Chair and desk
- Chair near window
- Refrigerator
- Spa-inspired bathroom
- Hair dryer
- Soap, shampoo, conditioner
- Coffee maker
Our family of four fit nicely in the Tropicana AC Double Queen room, and everyone had a wonderful night’s sleep! One of my favorite features was the glass inlaid bathroom door – it doubled as a nightlight when we left the bathroom light on after dark. (A huge help in an unfamiliar room!) The bathroom was clean and we had more than enough towels and toiletries. Despite being in a town known for nightlife and 24 hour casinos – we heard no noises throughout the night.
Inside and outside of the room, the Tropicana offers complimentary wireless high-speed Internet access. Hotel guests are welcome to the many family-friendly amenities at the Tropicana, including the indoor pool. My family can’t stay at a hotel without spending time at the pool and we certainly made our way to this one! Located in the South Tower, it’s fully enclosed with an outdoor deck/seating area. A lifeguard was on duty and vending machines were available in the space, though food and drink may be brought in as well. A favorite feature? Towels available! There are changing rooms outside the pool as well. While we didn’t see them, there’s also shuffle board and a putting green on that same floor! Seasonally, Tropicana’s outdoor pool is open, though that is geared more toward adults.
Other than the hotel and casino, there’s plenty more to see! Inside The Quarter there are shops and Carmine’s family style Italian restaurant as well as other fast dining options. There’s even an IMAX theater that shows a current blockbuster and A Beautiful Planet, running through the end of 2016. In the north tower, there’s an arcade open 10 AM – 10 PM from Memorial Day to Labor Day (and reduced hours off season). This summer the Tropicana will have fireworks every Saturday at 10 PM as well as their Multimedia Light & Sound Show. Bonus for our room was we could see the fireworks from our window! Our opinions of Atlantic City as an adults-only destination were changed at the end of our stay. Not one quarter was gambled by either adult and every minute was filled with fun.
If Your family stays at the Tropicana Casino:
- If you choose valet, bring everything in from your car. The attendants will get your car for you but it could take time. Self-park allows you to access your car and is closer to the Havana Tower.
- There’s a refrigerator in the room, so bring some snacks and drinks for sure. There are plenty of food options but snacks can get pricey.
- Don’t forget beach gear! Chairs, towels, sunscreen and umbrella or whatever you need for a day at the beach.
- A walk down the boardwalk during the day can be fun! Pack comfortable shoes and something warm because those sea breezes can be cool.
