We recently received a copy of Thomas & The Runaway Kite as part of a Mega Bloks Thomas & Friends Party we hosted for MommyParties last week.
Since my boys enjoyed Thomas & the Runaway Kite so much I thought it would make for a great movie to review for this week’s Movie Monday post.
The Thomas & the Runaway Kite DVD features 4 stories of Thomas and his friends and their many adventures. The DVD uses CGI animation and runs about 46 minutes in length. In addition to having a narrator, each train also speaks.
If your boys are anything like mine they love trains, particularly Thomas the Train. What’s especially nice about the stories from this DVD is their ability to teach our children important lessons. Yes, they are captivated by the different trains and the journeys they go on, but along the way they are also learning about problem solving and how to be a better train (or in their case boy.)
In each of the stories, Thomas faces a problem. He tries to solve that problem, by himself, without much success. As my sons and their friends watched Thomas & the Runaway Kite, they learned about
- Asking for help
- Being a good friend
- Why they should tell the truth
- What it means to be dependable
- Ways to be caring
- How to share and
- That being on time is important
The Thomas & the Runaway Kite DVD also came with 2 interactive bonus features
- How Many Shapes Do You See? Game
- Find What Doesn’t Belong Game
My sons would use the remote control buttons to select their answer. Then, the DVD narrator would show the correct answer. The questions were easy enough for my 3-year-old to answer and being able to select the answer was fun for my 5 and 7-year-old. We’ve watched the movie a few times since then and it continues to be a hit.
Have you seen Thomas & the Runaway Kite yet?
We’ve seen the tv episodes, but this is our first Thomas DVD. If you have a collection, what’s your favorite Thomas & Friends movie?
