In full disclosure we were given admission for four to experience The Glow to make this article possible. We appreciate their support of Jersey Family Fun and our efforts to let families know about events they may enjoy. As always our opinions are our own.
There are some things that are just essential to the fall – crisp weather, apple cider, pumpkins and family fun! This year there’s a new family tradition to add to your fall weekends and it includes all those fall-tastic things.
Head to Monmouth Park Racetrack to enjoy The Glow: A Jack O’Lantern Experience! It’s a “pumpkin wonderland” with more than 5,000 carved pumpkins lit and ready to show off.
Despite the rain on its opening weekend, The Glow was a hit for me and my family. We hadn’t experienced anything like it before! It’s held right at Monmouth Park, and signage directs you to the free parking. Bring a lantern or be ready to use the flashlight on your phone as the walk to the event could be dark.
All ages will enjoy seeing the amazing jack o’lantern artwork as you meander through Jack’s Lane. The path is both paved and dirt, so bring your toughest stroller. Attendants will light the path for you but you can benefit from your flashlight again! It’s also all outdoors so dress for the weather!
What you can expect to see at The Glow:
- Pirates – look for a movie star pirate too!
- Politicians – past and present
- Local love with Tillie, ferris wheel and more boardwalk fun
- Rock star inspired display with a jack-o-lantern band
- Prehistoric Park with some larger than life dinosaurs
- And really, so much more!
Your entry to The Glow path is timed so as to keep crowds to a minimum, or you can purchase a VIP ticket for entry anytime. Before you start the path there’s a concession stand with an array of fall snacks and beverages you won’t want to miss (no outside food or beverages allowed). During our visit there was a master carver demonstration. Be sure to get there early so you don’t miss all The Glow has to offer! The concessions are accessible after you walk the path and there’s even a pumpkin patch for you to purchase a pumpkin and get to work with all the new ideas you just saw!
Just like looking at holiday lights in December, the glow of the jack o’lanterns put us all in a festive mood! We spent between an hour and 90 minutes there. The Glow is only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening so make sure you put aside some time to get to this Jersey shore treasure. We sure hope this will be an annual event!
The Glow is open Friday and Saturday 6:30PM – 10PM, and Sunday 6:30PM – 9:30PM in October at Monmouth Park Racetrack, 175 Oceanport Avenue, Oceanport.
Admission Prices Start at $16 – buy your tickets here.
