It’s been a year since we partnered with Xfinity to share the details surrounding our switch to Xfinity Mobile. We’re happy to partner with them again to reflect on life with Xfinity Mobile and this year’s Extended Black Friday Xfinity Mobile Deals.
Sometimes there’s a benefit to waiting and other times you need to act now to make things happen. Such was the case with our family switching over to Xfinity Mobile. We had concerns that caused us to procrastinate. That procrastinating paid off BIG TIME as we made the switch to take advantage of Black Friday Xfinity Mobile deals.
Last year, maybe I was foolish, but I didn’t even know that Xfinity Mobile would be offering Black Friday deals my family could benefit from. I figured Black Friday deals were just for big appliances, electronics, toys, or clothing.
This year I know better! I’ve seen how much our family has saved. I know the difference it has made on our family budget to not have to worry about how much our cell bill will be this month. I want the same for you.
I want you to feel the relief that comes from not having to worry about how much data your kids are using or how much it might cost to give your teen their first smartphone.
I want you to have the freedom to choose how to spend your savings. Will you pay down other bills? Will you start saving for the next family vacation? What would you do with an extra $50, $100, or more in the bank at the end of every month?
These are the kinds of questions you can think about when you switch and save with Xfinity Mobile.
Last year, when our friends at Xfinity reached out to us and started sharing just how much families can save on mobile service and new phones with their Black Friday deals, we almost didn’t believe it. But we know Xfinity, we’ve had Xfinity service since we bought our first home together some 15 years ago.
My husband and I decided it was the perfect time to switch and I am so glad we did. We’ve partnered with Xfinity, again, to have them sponsor this guide sharing Xfinity Mobile Black Friday deals, our experience, and tips for switching to Xfinity Mobile because we know switching and saving makes a difference to New Jersey families.

Why does Xfinity offer mobile service?
Xfinity developed Xfinity Mobile to save their subscribers money. By bundling services, not only can a family save on their wireless phone bill but they can also get the most value from their services as they work together seamlessly.

- Xfinity Mobile recently announced new unlimited 5G pricing at $30 per line for two or more lines that can save customers up to 50 percent over AT&T, 45 percent over Verizon, and 25 percent over T-Mobile for two lines, with additional savings when customers add more lines**.
- Xfinity Mobile auto-connects to millions of free WiFi hotspots and customers who switch to Xfinity Mobile save up to $600 a year on their wireless bills.***
- For the third straight year, Xfinity Mobile ranked among the industry’s leaders in customer satisfaction according to ACSI. This year they also ranked Xfinity Mobile as a leader in quality, value and likelihood to recommend.

How do I find the trade in value for my current phone?
Select Apple iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, and Google Pixel phones are compatible with Xfinity Mobile. If they aren’t OR you are looking to trade in your phone to take advantage of these Xfinity Mobile Black Friday deals, you can visit this page to determine the trade-in value.
Xfinity Mobile has partnered with Assurant to accept trade-ins for eligible phones. If you accept Assurant’s offer, you will receive a check for the estimated value within 30 days. You do not need to ship your phone anywhere, Xfinity will take care of that for you during the trade-in process.
Are there other Black Friday Xfinity Mobile deals I can take advantage of?
YES! Members of Xfinity Rewards (all subscribers are eligible for Xfinity Rewards) can earn additional gift cards for transferring over cell phone lines to Xfinity Mobile and/or referring new members to Xfinity Mobile. So whether you purchase a new phone or not, you can earn gift cards for transferring cell phone lines to Xfinity. Make sure you sign up for Xfinity Rewards first. There’s no fee to join the rewards program.
There are also Black Friday deals at Xfinity on select mobile accessories.
How does the gift card work? When do I receive the gift card?
Customers will receive a prepaid Visa gift card, which can be used anywhere Visa gift cards are accepted. It can take 4-6 weeks to receive gift cards earned from transferring a line AND purchasing a new phone. It will take a bit longer to receive gift cards through the Xfinity Rewards program as lines need to be active for at least 90 days before those Visa gift cards are shipped.
Can I use the gift card to purchase a new phone? Do I need to finance the purchase price of the phone?
Shoppers will not receive the gift card at the time of purchase. Therefore, they cannot be used to purchase new devices.
Additionally, the Black Friday Xfinity Mobile device credits are applied monthly to accounts over 24 months so long as the device agreement is in effect. If the line is canceled or device payments are accelerated, or you pay off your phone earlier the balance of credits associated with device payment are forfeited. For example, if you receive $200 off your new phone, that would be an $8.33 a month credit. If a phone was paid off 6 months in advance, the credit/discount would essentially be reduced by $50.
Xfinity Mobile & Cell Services
With Xfinity Mobile, customers can get up to ten lines with unlimited talk and text and up to 100 MB of shared data for free. There are two plans for mobile users purchasing additional data.
How much does it cost to get Xfinity Mobile service? What plans does Xfinity Mobile offer? Does Xfinity Mobile offer unlimited data?
You can pay By the Gig, opt for Unlimited or both so you and your family can get what works for your needs. Subscribers can change plans in the middle of the month or mid-billing cycle, so you’re free to switch as your needs change.
Xfinity Mobile by the Gig cell service
By-the-Gig is great for one person, or the data can be shared! If you go over your chosen amount, it’s an additional $15 per GB or lines can be switched to Unlimited.
- 1 GB: $15/mo
- 3 GB: $30/mo
- 10GB: $60/mo
Xfinity Mobile unlimited plans
Xfinity Mobile has the best price for unlimited, you can save hundreds of dollars on your bill –
- $45 per month for one line.
- 2 lines $30 each per month.
- 3 lines $30 each per month.
- 4 lines $30 each per month.
- You can use the savings calculator to determine your costs if you have more than 5 lines.
How much can you save with Xfinity Mobile plans?
Savings may differ based on the needs of your family and your current plan. In our case since we have 5 lines and had additional devices with their own plan, we are saving about $100 a month. Visit https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/Xfinity to check out the savings calculator to see how much you can save on your cell phone service bill.
What if I want to switch Xfinity Mobile service plans?
Mix and match shared and unlimited data plans with your family based on what you need; switch back and forth from data plans anytime using the Xfinity Mobile app. If you are switching your services and plan, the new pricing will take effect in the current billing cycle. If you want to switch back, the fee will be adjusted the following billing cycle.
How can I monitor my family’s usage of data on Xfinity Mobile?
You can monitor your family’s data usage on the Xfinity Mobile app. Subscribers can also view call logs in real time, manage payment options, switch back-and-forth between data options, order a new device or add additional lines.
It’s okay to go over your plan with Xfinity Mobile
Those who opt for the by the gig plan should just keep an eye on their usage. If you’re approaching ten (or more) gigs one month, it makes sense to switch to Unlimited that month. Your pricing is based on how many gigs you use and/or lines you purchase. If you use more than your chosen amount, your bill will automatically adjust for that billing period only. Additional data is $15 per GB.
Members of your household can be on different plans. For example, if your children primarily access the internet while at home using your WiFi have them share data with the per gig price. If you as parents tend to use more than 10 gigs, put yourselves on the unlimited monthly plan. You can monitor your usage as often as needed and make changes accordingly with no penalties or added fees.
Do I need a new Xfinity Mobile phone for Xfinity Mobile service?
While these Black Friday deals at Xfinity Mobile are pretty amazing you may not need to switch phones in order to switch to Xfinity Mobile. Before heading to an Xfinity Store it’s best to check and see if your current phones are compatible.
Is my phone is compatible with Xfinity Mobile?
Checking if your phone is compatible with Xfinity Mobile is pretty easy. You will need the IMEI code from your phone. For Apple iPhones it’s available in the settings. Click general, then about. Scroll down until you can see a variety of codes. Look for the one next to the letters IMEI.
After you have that IMEI code you can visit this page of the Xfinity site to determine if your phone is compatible.
How do I switch to Xfinity Mobile cell service?
Can I walk in and switch to Xfinity Mobile?
Yes! You can reduce your wait time by scheduling an appointment at your Xfinity Store, but you don’t have to book an appointment. You can also switch to Xfinity Mobile online on their website.
Can I make an appointment to switch to Xfinity Mobile?
You can make an appointment online.

- Click view store details.
- Select book appointment (most, but not all, Xfinity locations offer appointments).
Our experience switching to Xfinity Mobile
Like many of you, we had been thinking about switching to Xfinity Mobile for a while. How can you turn down being able to save so much money on cell service? But we kept coming back to these same concerns:
- I had an iPhone 7Plus, with 256 GB. The men/boys in our family all had iPhones XRs with smaller memory. When I got my phone it was more important for me to have a bigger memory (blogging life LOL). I hadn’t upgraded in years because I like having the bigger memory, and didn’t need the expense of a new phone. My husband wasn’t sure whether my older phone would be able to join Xfinity Mobile and if not how much it would cost to replace my current phone.
- We had WiFi in his vehicle as part of our AT&T service. Was that something that can be part of an Xfinity Mobile plan? If not, what does Xfinity Mobile recommend for customers that want WiFi in their vehicles?
- I was also working out of the house more (occasionally teaching in schools) I needed a way to be able to connect my Chromebook to the Internet wherever I was working. Many school districts don’t share their WiFi networks with teachers. Does Xfinity Mobile offer a mobile hot spot of sorts that will work with Chromebooks?
- Finally, are Apple Smartwatches compatible with Xfinity Mobile as well?
In conversations with Xfinity Mobile team members, I got responses to my concerns. Confident that Xfinity Mobile would work for our family we all went into our Mays Landing Store ready to make the switch. If you’re like our family you are finding those Black Friday deals really enticing, but you may have some of the same concerns we did. It’s my hope that this post will also help you understand how you can have your concerns addressed.
During our time in the Mays Landing Xfinity Store, we met managers Brooke and Howard, but it was Xfinity representative Connie that we spent the most time with. Connie was extremely patient and professional as we went through the process of transferring over 5 lines, one of which included a new phone purchase. She answered our questions, taught us new things about our phones, and helped us find additional ways to save money with Xfinity. Despite being in the store, over 2 hours, and past closing, Connie never rushed us or showed any signs of being impatient. Her professionalism inspired all of us.
How long does it take to switch to Xfinity Mobile?
I won’t lie. The process of switching over can be time-consuming. The more lines you have the more time it might take. The more information on your phone that needs to be transferred the more time you will need for that transferring process.
Also factor in what help you may need and what else you may want to talk about with your Xfinity representative. Connie helped my husband learn about creating mobile hotspots. She helped me to re-pair my Apple Watch with my new Apple iPhone.
Later, Connie and my husband reviewed our current Xfinity cable and internet plan. Connie found a way to help us save money on our cable and internet bill while also giving us more from the plan. I for one am excited to have improved high-speed internet. It makes such a difference to the work I do. The teens have been enjoying having back some of their favorite cable channels that we had cut previously.
In all, we spent over 2 hours at our Xfinity Store in Mays Landing last year. Keep in mind though that during that time we switched over 5 lines, transferred from an older Apple iPhone to a newer Apple iPhone, purchased iPhone accessories, reconnected an Apple Watch, found ways to save on our cable bill, bundled several offers, and learned about Xfinity Home security options.
Read my advice below to help save you time during your appointment to switch to Xfinity Mobile services or to take advantage of Black Friday deals at Xfinity.
9 things to do before you switch to Xfinity Mobile
Back up, back up, back up
Back up your current phone. Copy and back up your photos and videos to at least two devices. Yes, most content will easily transfer from an older phone to a newer phone, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. I recommend backing up (photos, videos, notes, etc) to a few different places because sometimes even backup devices and plans fail. Double check that everything you want to save has been backed up to your backup sources before making any changes to your phone or service.
Good backup sources
- Online photo and video storage options – Most let you upgrade and additional storage space as needed.
- The hard drive of a personal desktop computer. Not all laptops are able to store a large volume of photos.
- A portable external hard drive – While small flash drives are great for word docs and presentations, I find that they tend not to have a lot of storage for photos and videos. Small flash drives are also easier to misplace versus larger external drives.
Don’t just back up, clean up
If there’s any chance you will be switching phones, consider this as a time to clean up your device. You’ve backed up your pictures and videos. Which ones still need to be on your device?
I had over 13,000 photos and 600 videos on my Apple iPhone 7 Plus. I had nearly maxed out the 256 GB of storage I had. All of those files created a potentially large backup file. The more information there is to transfer the greater the potential there is for issues to arrive and the more time-consuming the process of switching phones can take.
Get those passwords and usernames
One of the downsides I’ve noticed to upgrading my phone is that I seemed to have been signed out of all my apps that I normally always stay signed in on. I tried all the passwords I usually use but many of them had been rejected and I went through the process of resetting them. Even though I had many saved to Google passwords, that did not help either. If I had to do it again, I would have written down all the passwords and usernames ahead of time or used a password manager.
Prepare for new passwords
Before you walk into an Xfinity Store for a new phone or device start thinking about what you would like as your new passwords. Over the course of the transferring and switching process, your existing phone and new phone may pass between a few Xfinity Associates as they help you have the best experience possible with your new phone and service.
You will likely want to change the passcodes and passwords once the transfer process is complete. I know for me I felt like I use so many passwords repeatedly so I really needed to think about what new passwords I could create.
Check to see if your current phone is compatible with Xfinity Mobile
There are a lot more phones compatible with Xfinity Mobile than ever before. However, some won’t be. For example, my Apple iPhone 7 Plus wasn’t compatible. You can use this page of the Xfinity Mobile site to determine if your phone is compatible.
Unlock your phone
If your phone(s) are currently with another carrier you will need to unlock them in preparation for switching to Xfinity Mobile. Some carriers take longer than others to do this. Some will allow you to begin the process online but it can take 48 hours or longer to be approved for unlocking.
Have your account numbers and information ready
Customers can also bring their current cell providers’ account number and pin (or transfer pin) with them to help when making the switch to Xfinity Mobile. It’s also very helpful to come with your Xfinity account information.
Shop the current selection of phones available with the Black Friday Xfinity Mobile deals
If you haven’t been shopping for a new iPhone or other smartphone or you have and feel overwhelmed by the choices take advantage of these pages to do a phone-by-phone comparison. I like that it gave me a clear and visual way to see the differences between Apple iPhones, but you can do the comparison with other models.
- Compare Apple iPhone models at https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/.
- You can use this page of the Xfinity website to compare phones and models.
I’d also recommend calling your local Xfinity Store to verify that the model you want is available and in stock. Check store hours to make sure your local store is also open during the time you would like to shop. To reduce your wait time, it’s best to make an appointment.
Consider what else you have that may be connected to your cell phone carrier
In our family, we had multiple devices connected with our carrier. Would they work with Xfinity Mobile? That was one of our biggest concerns before making the switch.
Can Xfinity Mobile provide wifi in my car?
Yes and no. While you can’t sign a vehicle up for WiFi services, Xfinity Mobile users can create a mobile hotspot with their phones and use that while in a vehicle. It’s a great perk when your kids want to play on their gaming devices while on an extended trip to grandma’s or while mom and dad are waiting in the pick up line at school.
Can I create a mobile hotspot with Xfinity Mobile?
Yes, Xfinity Mobile users can create a mobile hotspot with their phones. You can find directions for setting up your mobile hot spot on the Xfinity Mobile site. That hotspot can then be used to connect other devices to WiFi.
Are Apple Watches compatible with Xfinity Mobile?
Yes, Apple watches are compatible with Xfinity Mobile in the same way they would be with other carriers. You can buy and connect your Apple Watch with Xfinity Mobile at any Xfinity Store. One thing to note, Apple Watches do not require their own cell service unless you want to be able to make a phone call without having your bluetooth phone connected.
