Excited to be here!

Excited to be here!

Spend a day among the creatures of the sea!

It’s been years since our family visited Adventure Aquarium, but it was on our summer bucket list so off we went this week! My 5 year old son had never been to an aquarium at all and couldn’t wait to see what it was all about.

Adventure Aquarium is sectioned into zones – all inside except zone B, the outdoor area featuring Penguin Island. We started our visit in Zone D, eager to see the hippos! Two hippos (Button and Genny) reside at Adventure Aquarium, and you can watch their feedings four times during the day. While we visited one of them swam a bit, over to the other to cuddle! There are different areas to view the hippos; see them from up above at the hippo lookout, or see them swim in the underwater viewing area.

Zone D also features the stunning Shark Tunnel. Lots of photo opportunities here, as well as so many different views of sharks and sea life. Dinosaurs of the Deep is a special exhibit extended through the summer, focusing on 20 ancient animals! Your dinosaur lovers will thrill at the life size replicas and prehistoric timeline. Zone D ends with a photo area where we met Gill, the shark mascot of Adventure Aquarium, and exit is through the gift shop.

On the same floor as Zone D, Zone A offers more shark facts in the Shark Lab, and the popular Touch-A-Shark where you can … touch a shark! The Ocean Realm theater in Zone A hosts programs throughout the day such as Meet the Divers, and the game show “Who Wants to Be a Fishonaire?” Some beautiful fish can be found in the Shipwreck and Under the Boardwalk tanks.  We enjoyed watching Seamore, the rescued turtle as he swam in his dedicated tank.

Next to Zone D, in Zone B is the outdoor Penguin Island; watch them feed at scheduled times, or maybe they’ll be out for a swim! Also in Zone B is the inside Stingray Beach Club where there’s plenty of room at the tank to touch one of the many stingrays! Children 42″ and under can visit the junior area, where the wall is lower and it’s easier for them to touch. A great benefit for the smaller visitors!

Smaller visitors (6 and under) will also thrill at the Zone C KidZone! When it’s been a long time in the stroller or its just time to get that energy out, head to the top floor and explore! Meet the AquaPals, check out a colorful touch tank, and spend time learning about how frogs croak!

Our group was two adults and three children, ages 2, 5, and 9 and each of us enjoyed our visit! On a day with lots of camp groups, the aquarium never felt too crowded. The children enjoyed finding all the photo op areas, like the shark cage, and the #sharkselfie areas. The Ocean Realm theater provides a spot to sit and relax, as you watch the sea life swim past. Hippo Haven, and Shark Realm were other favorites.

Was Shark Week not enough for you?

Vist Adventure Aquarium in Camden NJ for a whole SUMMER of the shark! Permanent exhibits allow visitors to touch a shark and see 11 species of shark, located in either the Ocean Realm or Shark Realm.  Did you know Adventure Aquarium is the only place in the United States to see a great hammerhead shark? Stand in the shark tunnel as sharks and other creatures swim next to and above you. Take #sharkselfies throughout the Aquarium and even watch a movie from the perspective of a shark cage – if you’re brave enough! Even braver than that? Swim with the sharks in a special adventure in the Shark Realm  or watch a shark feed up close (additional charges apply). Summer of the Shark continues through August 23.
