Residence Inn Tudor Wharf Boston, Places to Stay in Boston with Kids

In full disclosure, we received a complimentary two night stay at the Residence Inn Tudor Wharf Boston, in exchange for this review. We appreciate the Residence Inn’s support of Jersey Family Fun and our efforts to share family friendly hotels with our readers. As always, all opinions are our own.

Location and Convenience in Boston

When you’re not familiar with the landscape, finding a place to stay in Boston is intimidating. As with most hotels located in major cities, costs can be high. Location is key. Do you want to be walking distance from attractions? Near the water? In need of certain amenities like a pool, a room for a bigger family? Do you want to prepare your own meals or be near restaurants?

We wanted to be in the city limits so we could walk to attractions, or use public transit. We always appreciate an included breakfast; I find having some healthy options at our fingertips keeps us from stopping for the sweet stuff first thing in the morning. Even though we’re a family of four, we have found that for stays longer than one night a suite with some elbow room makes everyone happier. After lots (and I mean LOTS) of research on lodging options in and around Boston, based on our assumed itinerary, we chose Residence Inn Tudor Wharf Boston for our stay.

So why, over all the other options did we choose Residence Inn Tudor Wharf Boston? Location, room size, and breakfast!

  • Parking is at a premium in Boston. All hotels within city limits that we looked into charge for parking (Residence Inn’s fee is $45/day), and parking at attractions is costly. Our children don’t mind long walks, and Residence Inn is within a mile of plenty of historic sites, or a short walk from a T stop.
  • When we stay in a hotel for more than one night, things get tight. Sitting on a bed to unwind while watching tv can be uncomfortable night after night, and squeezing clothes into one dresser or laying them on the floor gets frustrating. Residence Inn offers suites with a sofa bed, queen bed and small kitchen.
  • When you’re rushing to pack a lot into a vacation, the time it takes to stop somewhere for a meal can affect how much you’re able to do that day. Not only does the Residence Inn offer a complimentary hot buffet breakfast every day, but the suites have kitchens! Whether you’re making a dinner or a late night snack, to have that stovetop and sink is a huge help in keeping family vacations affordable.

Our Residence Inn Tudor Wharf Boston Hotel Room

We arrived at the Residence Inn Tudor Wharf at noon on Saturday, knowing check in time was 4:00 pm. The hotel offers parking at an additional fee, so we planned to keep the car there while we toured the city and return after check in. No need! The receptionist happily checked us in, and one fill of the available luggage cart later, off to our room we went.

Our Residence Inn Tudor Wharf Boston room was just right for our three night stay. We were able to unpack all our suitcases in the bedroom dresser and the living room drawers. The closet was large and we could put extras in there. Drawers outside the bathroom in the sink area kept our toiletries out of sight. We had packed some snacks and the cabinets and refrigerator kept our food organized. Having a microwave was great for reheating coffee and the refrigerator kept our Italian pastries found in the North End fresh during our stay.

Daily maid service is included with the room and each day after touring we found fresh towels and a freshly made bed. All rooms at Residence Inn are non-smoking, and allergy-friendly rooms are offered as well. Having a suite made everyone much more comfortable –  the adults were able to stay up later, watching television or reading with the light on while the kids slept in the dark in the living area. Our time in the room was limited because there was so much to see in Boston, but returning to the room was a relaxing end to the day.

Dining Options Included!

Staying at the Residence Inn Tudor Wharf gave us a perfect start to the morning too! On weekends from 7 AM – 10 AM and weekdays 6:30 AM – 9:30 AM the hotel offers a hot breakfast buffet that will satisfy anyone. We went down to the lobby where there were plenty of tables available for guests to eat breakfast in the public area (though many brought back to their rooms). There’s also a lovely deck area just outside the lobby where hotel guests could dine al fresco!

Each day we enjoyed cold cereals, scrambled eggs, hot coffee, juices, yogurts and more. Two waffle irons were kept busy and each day we explored new ways to top our waffles (there’s even strawberry or chocolate batter some days). With pastries, bread and a toaster, hot oatmeal, and even breakfast sandwiches one morning, the breakfast buffet was our favorite part of our stay. A minimum of two attendants kept the dishes full and even filled a special request of ours one morning. The convenience of having half the family get to breakfast while others were getting dressed, or eating then returning to the room was key in our getting our day started early. No rushing everyone to get ready to leave the room, finding a place to eat, and then waiting to be served.

On weekdays, guests can return to the lobby for the “Residence Inn Mix.” We were lucky to be there on a Monday and enjoyed some appetizers – hummus, cheese, crackers, chips and even chocolates – that we brought to the pool area while the kids swam. The next night we were already home, but they were grilling burgers and more! The cost of food can be so high when traveling, it’s a comfort to know that if you wanted to, you could get a couple meals a day at the hotel, or at least breakfast. Having the included breakfast was one of our reasons for choosing the Residence Inn Tudor Wharf and they did not disappoint.

Location

As seen above, the location of the Residence Inn Tudor Wharf Boston is so picturesque! Located on the Charles River, at the foot of the Charlestown Bridge and steps from Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution, you’d be happy to just sit there and take it all in. We had planned to do a lot of walking and even with it being across the river from Boston, the Residence Inn is within a mile of many historic sites. We were able to leave our car parked and visit every attraction on our list. If walking is too much, the T transit system has a stop nearby. There are a couple of eateries in the next building over, and a Whole Foods within walking distance if you have a need for groceries in the room. As we walked to the Museum of Science, we found a few playgrounds and even a skate park! If your kids need to get that energy out in ways other than walking, no need to travel far.

You know the inevitable left behind item when staying at a hotel?  A phone charger, a pair of flip flops, a stuffed toy? Ours was a bathing suit, it went undiscovered for almost a week. One call and it was back on its way home thanks to the helpful and caring housekeeping staff. Big thumbs up for customer service at the Residence Inn.

We truly had a memorable family vacation to Boston. A large part of that success was due to the Residence Inn Boston Harbor/Tudor Wharf. It was a perfect fit for our family!
