We originally published our listing of New Jersey Free Movies for families in 2011, but we update this annually for Jersey Family Fun readers.

 

Summer is the season for the outdoors. With warm weather and no school, there are many more opportunities to get outside. One of the ways our families like to spend time outside is by watching outdoor movies. There is just something great about sitting outside on a warm summer night and watching a movie under the stars. I don’t know about your family, but I know we were so busy during the school year that we have missed out on a lot of this year’s movies. This summer gives us the opportunity to catch up on what we missed. So many towns offer free kids movies in New Jersey. Free movies are held in neighborhood parks, farms, libraries, community centers and other locations throughout the summer months. Here is a list of where and when you can find cheap and free movies throughout New Jersey this summer.

You can view our free movies calendar by previewing the calendar, looking at a specific county’s calendar, or reviewing our cheap and free movie series by series, region, and county. Some events may require a fee or advanced registration, we will let you know if we know, but we recommend following the links for the most up-to-date information. Bow Tie Cinemas Free Summer Movies 2019

The Bow Tie Cinemas Free Summer Movies are the first to make our listing of free movies in North Jersey but be sure to get there early, seating is limited. Tickets are issued on a first come- first served basis at 9:00 am. The movies begin at 10 am. The films and schedules are subject to change without notice. Movies are every Tuesday and Wednesday from late June to midAugust.

The Bow Tie Cinemas Free Summer Movies are played at Bergenfield Cinema 5 – 58 S. Washington Avenue in Bergenfield.

Cresskill Summer Nights Movie

All movies are shown on the 3rd Street baseball field on Tuesdays with rain dates on Thursdays. They run through July and August, starting at sunset.

Movies and Music Under the Stars- Fort Lee 

All programs are free to the public. Music starts at 7 pm and runs to 8:30 pm and films screen at sunset each Saturday evening from late June through early September.

The Movies and Music Under the Stars- Fort Lee are played on the outdoor green/stage of the Jack Alter Fort Lee Community Center at 1355 Inwood Terrace, Fort Lee.

 

Franklin Lakes Movies Under the Stars waiting for 2019 information

Mayors Wellness Campaign will be hosting three free summer “Movies in the Park.” The field opens at 7:30 PM and the movies will begin at 8:30 PM.

The Franklin Lakes Movies Under the Stars are played at Parsons Pond Park, 500 Parsons Pond Road (off of Old Mill Road across from Express Scripts).

 

Hackensack Movies Under the Stars 

Admission is free just bring a blanket or lawn chair.

The Hackensack Movies Under the Stars are played at the Atlantic St Park in Hackensack.

 

Teaneck Movies in the Park 

All movies are free to the public. Showtime is at twilight (approx 7:45 p.m.)

The Teaneck Movies in the Park are played at the Votee Park Rotary Band Shell, located on Palisade Ave & Colonial Court (just north of Route 4).

Rochelle Park Library Free Family Movie

Just as the title says – free! Head to the library for a favorite family movie.

Teen Movie Mondays at Bergenfield Library

Send your teen to spend time with friends while watching an age appropriate movie in the air conditioned library.

Morning Movie for Kids at Glen Ridge Library

Before you get your day started, head to the library for a movie geared toward children and toddlers.

Movies are every Tuesday and Wednesday from late June to mid-August.

The 2019 Bow Tie Cinemas Free Summer Movies are played at Bellevue Cinema 4- 260 Bellevue Avenue in Montclair and South Orange 5 – 1 Sopac Way in South Orange.

 

CityPlex 12’s Free Summer Kids Films

CityPlex 12’s Free Summer Kids Films Series provides specially selected family friendly movies every Wednesday and Thursday at 10am from June 26th to August 29th. Movies start at 10 am and the doors open at 9 am.

The Essex County’s CityPlex 12’s 2019 Free Summer Kids Films Series will be available at the Newark’s CityPlex 12 at 360-394 Springfield Avenue in Newark.

 

Applegate Farm’s Family Fun Nights 

Free outdoor films that take place under the stars on Wednesdays in July at Applegate Farms. The fun starts at 6:30 pm. Until 8 pm there will be a DJ, games, prizes, activities and a magic show. The movie will begin at 8:30 pm.

The Applegate Farm’s Family Fun Nights movies are played at 616 Grove Street in Montclair in Essex County.

 

Belleville Summer Movie Nights waiting for 2019 information

At Belleville Municipal Stadium at dusk. Free popcorn and cotton candy. Bring a blanket. Free admission for Belleville residents

 

Cedar Grove Movies Under the Stars 

Free outdoor films that take place under the stars this summer. The movie will begin at dusk.

The Cedar Grove Movies Under the Stars are played at Morgan Farms in Cedar Grove.

 

Kip's Castle free movies

The beautiful scenery makes a great backdrop for the Free Friday Flicks.

 

Free Friday Flicks at Kip’s Castle 

This annual FREE activity is a fun tradition for residents in Essex County. The gates of Kip’s Castle open at 6 PM on select Friday nights in June to the public for movie nights. Prior to the start of the film, there will be entertainment that ties into the film being shown. At dusk, the family-friendly films are shown on the grassy lawn.  Families are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blankets, and just enjoy each other’s company on spring nights.  If the weather is not conducive to outdoor viewings, then the rain date is the following Saturday.

The 2019 Free Friday Flicks at Kip’s Castle movies are played at 22 Crestmont Road in Verona in Essex County.

 

Montclair Film Festival 

Our annual series of FREE Movies Under The Stars Returns for Summer 2018! Montclair Film’s popular Summer Series kicks off 2018 at Presby Iris Gardens on June 2. Zoo-vies Free Summer Movies at Turtleback Zoo waiting for 2019 information

Come to the zoo on any of their Family Fun Nights on Wednesdays and stay for the Zoo-vies!  Films begin at dusk. Wednesday evenings in July and August! Enjoy blockbuster movies under the stars on the rooftop of our parking deck at the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo. Free admission. Bring your own chair. Free Movies in Dover Township 

The doors open at 7:00 PM. Free music and entertainment will be available from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The movie will start immediately afterward.

The Free Movies in Dover Township are played at JFK Commons Park, which is located across the street from the public library at 32 E Clinton Street.

 

Free Movies in Morris Township 

Bring the whole family and your blankets and lawn chairs to Ginty Field and enjoy our Free Big Screen Outdoor Family Movies. Arrive an hour early for DJ music before the movie. The family oriented features will begin at dusk; approximately 8:30 PM. Check the Township of Morris website (www.morristwp.com) for updated show information. Movie titles are subject to change based on public release dates and are listed in event listings.

The Free Movies in Morris Township are played at Ginty Field at 45 Woodland Avenue in Morristown.

Morristown Performing Arts Center Free Summer Movies 

The Morristown Performing Arts Center will once again offer a series of FREE family movies this summer.  Although the movies are free, tickets are necessary and can be found on the MPAC website.

The Morristown Performing Arts Center Free Summer Movies are played at the Performing Arts Center at 100 South Street in Morristown.

 

Cinépolis Summer Kids Movie Series waiting on 2019 information

The Cinépolis Summer Kids Series is back and for the first time ever, debuting at all Cinépolis Luxury Cinema locations. Occurring every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., June through August 14. Tickets are $1 per person per show.

The Cinépolis Summer Kids Movie Series are played at the Cinépolis at the Morris Hills Shopping Center, 3165 Route 46 in Parsippany.

 

Roxbury – Horseshoe Lake Curbside Cinema waiting for 2019 information

The Horseshoe Lake Curbside Cinema movies are played on a big screen right out on the beach. It is free for all residents and non-residents. A snack stand is open before and throughout the whole movie so be sure to get some tasty snacks. The movie will begin at aproximately 8:30 pm. Make sure to get there early to get good seats and to bring blankets and chairs!

The Horseshoe Lake Curbside Cinema movies are played at Horseshoe Lake in Roxbury.

Carteret Movies in the Park will begin in late June at dusk with screenings at the Zsymborski Bandstand at Carteret Park. They will continue on Wednesday and Saturday for the duration of June, July, and August. The movies will be moved into the Thomas J. Deverin Community Center in cases of inclement weather.
