LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ: Exciting New Things to Do and Time-Tested Activities (With Photos)

LEGO Ninjago character statues stand by! Cannons blast with confetti! Lifesize LEGO minifigures dance! LEGO blocks fall from the ceiling! And with all the excitement the LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ reopens with so much exuberance as guests, media, and influencers are invited to see all the new exciting things to do at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center at American Dream.

Lego drop at Legoland Discovery Center NJ Grand Reopening

While my boys have gotten much older, outside the typical age for LEGOLAND (16, 18, and 19), they still love LEGO blocks and sets and I could not miss seeing what’s new at our local LEGOLAND Discovery Center. So I happily said yes when invited by LEGOLAND to visit for the day. My boys don’t need to still be little for this mom to appreciate how much fun these new activities will be for guests. I’m thrilled to say that while I saw the new activities before they opened to the public, they are now open for ALL guests to enjoy. Additionally, because of our affiliate partnership with ARES Travel, Jersey Family Fun readers can buy discount tickets to LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ.

Allow me to share the details about the new zones of activity along with some of my favorite pictures from my visit.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ NEW Activities

As part of the grand reopening, the LEGOLAND Discovery Center New Jersey opened 5 new areas for guests. These new things to do are all included with admission.

Tree of Imagination

The Tree of Imagination is the most colorful creation you’ll see when visiting the LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ. It’s also always changing. In fact, it’s fair to say that how I saw it last Friday (6/28/24) is different from how it is today and how it might be when you visit.

The Tree of Imagination is a floor-to-ceiling LEGO creation, colorful, vibrant, and interactive! Guests can add their own colored LEGO bricks to the tree too. Take a closer look to see miniature magical worlds! Peer through the kaleidoscope and twist the button overhead to see the colorful crystals change. Walk to the other side of the tree and find a classic viewfinder built into the tree with a button overhead to change the pictures.

DUPLO® Park

There has always been a DUPLO® area at LEGOLAND Discovery Centers, but now DUPLO® has been given a much larger play area. With so many engaging activities your youngest LEGO fans may be content to play in this space all day.

Who can blame them? There’s duck fishing in one area. A spin the construction challenge wheel helps to spark ideas for building! A mini screen structure lets little ones watch how to build videos and the other side blows bubbles into the area with just the press of a button.

Plus the DUPLO slide and various build tables that you and the kids have grown to love are still there.

Creative Club

Get inspired! Draw! Build! That’s the idea behind the LEGOLAND Discovery Center New Jersey’s Creative Club. It’s an inviting space where guests can let their imaginations run wild.

Step 1 get inspired! Use your imagination. Look around the area or use one of their reference books to get ideas. Step 2 draw out your idea. Paper and coloring pencils are available. Step 3 build. Tables have bays of LEGO bricks and Playmakers/staff can help guests build their dream LEGO creations. When you’re done creations can be displayed by attaching them to the Creation Wall.

I admit, though I didn’t have my boys with me, I spent a good amount of time building my creation, a palm tree on a desert island.

Hero Zone

In the Hero Zone, LEGO meets a laser maze to add to the fun factor of a visit to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ.

Test your reflexes and challenge the kids in the new timed laser maze. Before you enter you’ll be asked to choose your level of difficulty. Once in the maze, you’ve got to work your way above and under the lasers to press special panels on the wall. Get through the maze without crossing a laser and before time’s up and you’ll be a hero. The maze isn’t very dark or long so it’s suitable for everyone in the family. If you’ll be carrying a little one, I’d recommend going for the easy level to avoid hitting too many lasers.

What else is new?

The LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ gift shop has expanded as well. It’s on level with any LEGO shop you’d see in other malls. You’ll find an expansive collection of LEGO sets and perhaps buy a set for an upcoming birthday gift. Coming alone for this visit made it much easier to make a surprise purchase for my son who is turning 16.

Additional LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ Activities

Usually, when you make way for new attractions, some areas have to be retired. It was really hard to tell what was no longer there. I had to go back to my last set of pictures from 2021 to see what had changed. I am pleased to say that the LEGOLAND Discovery Center found a way to bring guests MORE without taking away much. When I compare pictures it looks like a big lion LEGO sculpture and animal sculpture are what’s missing, but I don’t think you’ll miss them at all.

If you haven’t been to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ ever or in a while here’s a look at the popular areas that still remain. Remember you can buy discount tickets to LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ.

MINILAND New Jersey New York

MINILAND New Jersey New York brings the best of both states to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center NJ. In the center, we have MINILAND New Jersey. I loved seeing the Absecon Lighthouse, Lucy the Elephant, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Liberty State Park, and the Jersey Shore Boardwalk.

On the outer perimeter, there’s MINILAND New York complete with Times Square, Central Park, skyscrapers and more. In both ‘states’ guests can push buttons to activate movements of LEGO figures like construction workers drilling into the street, football players moving on the field, and arcade games lighting up. If you hang out in MINILAND long enough you can watch the sunset and the fireworks blasting into the night sky.

Imagination Express

This interactive and exciting LEGO-themed ride, the Imagination Express, takes guests on a LEGO train as guests interact with the scenery using magical wands.

LEGO Ninjago Soft Play

The LEGO tunnels of fun and LEGO building areas still invite younger guests to test their ninja skills through a 2-level obstacle course. Once successful, it’s time to build in the LEGO Ninjago-inspired areas.

LEGO Studios 4D Cinema

Watch as your favorite LEGO characters come to life in the LEGO Studios 4D Cinema. There are a variety of shows to choose from and there is no extra charge to watch them. Each show is about 12 minutes with shows spaced out about 20 minutes apart. The shows are 4D. Be prepared to feel heat during fires, see strobe lights flash, and get a little damp from the occasional rain storm splash.
