Aspen Ice Arena (Randolph, NJ)
As a beginner my family and I truly love Aspen Ice. They offer you walkers to learn to skate. These are very helpful for young skaters. As I have twins, it ensures I can take both the boys skating without an extra set of hands. This arena is a great local place to learn to skate or enjoy some public skating to get a little exercise. They offer skate rentals and a variety of hours. In general, their main hours of public skating are Monday – Friday 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. There are several times available on Saturdays with some breaks between the hours of 11:30 AM to 9 PM (see link) and Sunday 11:30 to 4:00 PM (with breaks). Admission varies based on age. Ages 8 and under are $6.00, adults are $8.00.
Ice Vault (Wayne, NJ)
This arena is used often by hockey leagues and for figure skating so they fewer hours available to the public. However, they do have hours every day that are posted on their website and updated often. There is a $9.00 admission charge for adults and a $8.00 admission charge for children. They will rent skates for $4.00. One very nice option at this arena is that you can buy a savings card that will give you a significant discount if you plan to skate on a regular basis.
