In full disclosure, this is a sponsored post through Blog Meets Brand on behalf of Boscov’s stores’ Boscov’s Holiday Home Tour.
The calendar says that Christmas is over a month away. Some folks say we shouldn’t be decorating for Christmas before we’ve had Thanksgiving. Normally, I might agree (maybe), but this year is different. Whether it’s because of the difficult election or an especially busy fall, I’m ready for the joy and traditions of the holiday season. I’m itching to start decorating our home for Christmas.
One only need to head into one of our attics to see how much my husband and I love decorating for Christmas. We have bin after bin of Christmas decorations. There’s a bin or two of lights. There’s at least 3 bins of Christmas tree ornaments and many more of different types of holiday decor. When you’ve been a Girl Scout leader and a teacher, you collect a lot of Christmas decorations. Then, add kids to the mix and you’ve got an excuse to start adding outdoor lights and inflatables to your holiday decoration collection.
Believe it or not, though, we had never set out to decorate a child’s bedroom for Christmas. I’m not sure why that’s been, but that changes this year. We were invited to partner up with Boscov’s for their Holiday Home Tour. We were sent a gift card and a mission. Decorate an area of your home with Boscov’s holiday decor. My husband and I instantly knew what we would do. We put our three boys in charge and let them decide what they wanted and how they wanted to decorate their room for Christmas.
Follow along as we share the before, the after, and the inbetween (what we bought, how much it was, and how you can buy it too.)
Before the holiday bedroom makeover
Two of my boys share a bedroom. This was their before pictures, before we decorated their kids’ bedroom for the holidays.
My tween has his own bedroom. Here is his before picture.
How to Decorate a Child’s Bedroom for the Holidays
Start with holiday bedding for kids
When my boys and I saw how extensive the selection of Boscov’s holiday decor was we were slightly overwhelmed. There were snowmen, gingerbread men, and other holiday decorations. We could decorate the kids’ bedrooms with any number of holiday themes. Rather than be torn over which Boscov’s holiday decorations to buy, we determined it would be best to start with my boys’ beds. We headed toward Boscov’s bedding department. Boscov’s has holiday bedding in a variety of designs.
My oldest, my 12 year old, tween, chose the Boscov’s holiday bedding with a gray snowlike look to it. It’s similar to this one at the Boscov’s site. Both were $14.99 but the gray version is only available in stores. My 10 year old son chose a Happy Holidays Nordic Snowman Sherpa Throw blanket for $13.99 and blue and white snowflake bedsheets (on sale for $19.99) from Boscov’s holiday bedding collection.
The moose-themed holiday bedding from Boscov’s caught my 8 year old’s attention. He selected the Ashley Cooper Moose Fleece Sheet Set $19.99, the Ashley Cooper Moose Fleece Throw $9.99 and the Deer Appliqued Velvet Decorative Pillow -18×18 $11.99, which he understood to be a baby moose. Just wait till you see how well all those pieces complemented each other.
Add in holiday decorations kids will love
With a 50% off holiday sale, we were able to make our Boscov’s gift card go further. For my tweens decorating their rooms for the holidays with snowmen, we found lots of snowman holiday decor. Boscov’s had snowmen door knob hangers, snowmen plush animals, snowmen signage and other decor.
For my moose-loving son, we found moose that were part plush part nonplush. The Moose Dangle Leg Sitters, on sale for $12.49, made a great addition to his bed as well as to his shelves. He also had to have this light up gingerbread house. Both items are only available in stores.
Give your kids their own Christmas tree
The finishing touch to any home for the holidays is the Christmas tree. It’s no different when you are decorating a kids’ rooms for the holidays. My boys have been asking for their own Christmas tree for years. With Boscov’s Christmas trees starting at $4.99, it was easy to say ‘yes’ to this request. My boys picked out packages of mini-holiday decorations that started at $2.99. I have to admit, I loved the time they took to work together to pick out Christmas decorations and then to decorate their Christmas tree. It was just the finishing touch their room needed.
