Heritage Park Playground in Asbury New Jersey is another one of those playgrounds that have undergone a massive renovation. Gone are the wooden playground structures. In its place is a very large playground structure with a three-level tower, a tot lot, and plenty of areas to play, climb, swing, slide, and more.

As part of our challenge to write about 100 New Jersey playgrounds in 100 days we bring you the details about Heritage Park Playground, a playground in Asbury Park.

While we don’t know exactly when the renovation occurred, we did the last feature on this playground in 2016. When we revisited on August 4, 2022, the equipment was all new. The pictures and details here are based on that visit.

Where is Heritage Park Playground located?

Heritage Park is located at 663 Fox Farm Road, Asbury, Bethlehem Township, New Jersey in Hunterdon County. The park is part of the Bethlehem Township park system.

What kind of playground equipment does the Heritage Park have?

The park features a large playground with a 3 story tower, slides, and climbing areas. There is also a tot lot, swings, spinners, and other special features.

Are there swings?

In the area where the main playground structure is there are two swing structures. One has 7 traditional swings and 1 accessible.

Nearby there is another structure with a tire swing.

In the preschool/tot lot there is a structure with 4 baby swings.

Are there slides?

The large playground structure has FIVE slides! The most impressive of the slides is a 3-story high tunnel slide that twists twice on the way down.

In addition to that slide, there is another twisting tunnel slide that twists once, an open slide that twists, and two slides that have some curviness to them.

The toddler playground has two slides, one on the front and another on the back.

What special features does the playground offer?

The large playground features climbing walls, monkey bars, bridges, an enclosed climbing web, and ladders.

There are three spinners: a large spinning web, a smaller spinning globe, and a high-back spinner.

There is a zip line than can accommodate two riders.

What kind of ground cover does the playground have?

The ground cover is wood mulch.

Is the playground at Heritage Park accessible?

The largest playground structure itself is not accessible. There are no ramps on it. There’s an activity board that is at ground level.

That being said the zip line has an accessible seat and there is an accessible swing.

Is there shade available at the Heritage Park Playground? 

The 3-story tower has paneling on the side allows for kids to have activities as they climb each level and to also be in the shade.

There are also umbrellas that stretch over portions of the playground.

There is a wonderful area, between the playgrounds, that has a collection of trees. These are wide trees that provide lots of shade and limbs for climbing. We saw plenty of kids, during our visit, take advantage of this area to sit in the trees and talk with each other.

There is also a pavilion at one end of the playground and parking lot.

Where is parking for the Heritage Park Playground? 

There is a very large parking lot that runs the length of the playground and around to the basketball court side.

Are there restrooms at Heritage Park?

There were port-a-potties between the playground and the parking lot.

What else is there to do at Heritage Park?

In addition to the playground at Heritage Park, there are additional amenities available for visitors.

Are there walking trails?

There are walking trails around the park, playground, and fields.

Outdoor Obstacle Course Test

Between the playground and the baseball field, there is an Outdoor Obstacle Course test. It’s meant for visitors to be able to train through an obstacle course and time themselves if they wish.

Musconetcong River Trail

The Musconetcong River Trail trail runs along the ridge of the mountain. The Musconetcong Gorge Preserve says, “most of the trails range from moderate to slightly difficult. They take advantage of the smoothest grounds but are steep in some areas.” You can access the trail from the park between the playground and the baseball field.

Are there fields or courts for sports? 

There is a basketball court, baseball field, soccer field, open grassy areas, and a gaga pit.

Heritage Park is located in the secluded hills of Hunterdon County. With a small butterfly garden at the entrance, multiple play areas, and open fields, it’s an immense space that is home to many activities and adventures.
