There are so many great places to visit in Atlantic County, it can be hard to decide where to visit first. We recommend these as the best places to visit in Atlantic County. These include these top family attractions in Southern New Jersey that just happen to be in Atlantic County.

  • Make a difference to rescued animals at the Funny Farm Animal Rescue. Time and time again, Atlantic County families tell us visiting the Funny Farm Rescue is one of their favorite things to do with kids in Atlantic County. The farm has animals both behind fences and roaming free. There are all different animals from horses, cows, dogs and cats, to goats, turkeys and a skunk all living peacefully together. Food for the various animals is available for purchase and the animals are friendly and funny. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.   • Bounce at Get Air! – Located behind the Hamilton Mall at 4406 Black Horse Pike, in, Mays Landing Get Air is one of the newest attractions to hit Atlantic County. It may be new but kids are loving having a local indoor trampoline park, where they can bounce to their heart’s desire.   • Climb the Absecon Lighthouse in Atlantic City. – Located at 31 S Rhode Island Avenue in Atlantic City. Take a trip to the Absecon Lighthouse which is New Jersey’s tallest lighthouse and the third tallest lighthouse in the county. Explore the artifacts and artwork in the exhibit areas below or climb the 228 steps to the top and get a great view of Atlantic City. Either way it’s a great Atlantic County family attraction.   • Feed stingrays at the Atlantic City Aquarium. – In addition to the stingray feeding tank the Atlantic City Aquarium has a small play area on the top floor where kids can color. The aquarium is also home to touch tanks on both floors. The Atlantic City Aquarium is located at 800 N New Hampshire Avenue in Atlantic City. There is a large parking lot.   • Walk through an six-story elephant at Lucy the Elephant. – Your visit begins with a short climb up Lucy the Elephant‘s left rear leg to an open exhibit area. There, your guide, will tell you a little about Lucy the Elephant before you watch a movie about Lucy’s history. The film is short enough to keep the kids entertained and interesting enough to hold the parent’s attention too.  After that guests are free to explore the rest of the museum floor and Lucy the Elephant. Stairs will take you to Lucy’s howdah (rooftop/canopy) where you can get a great view of the Jersey shoreline and the top of Lucy. Lucy the Elephant is located at 9200 Atlantic Avenue in Margate.   • Spend the Day in Historic Smithville. – Historic Smithville, located in Galloway Township is a small village of specialty shops on a lake. Start your day with a pastry and some coffee from at the bakery. Walk across the bridge and rent a paddle boat. Rentals are a half an hour and perfect for little ones. After the paddle boats make sure to check out the shooting gallery, remote control cars and boats and the arcade. Have lunch at Auggie’s Doggies, Costello’s Pizza or AJ’s on the Lake.  For a more upscale dining experience try Fred and Ethel’s who’s outside patio is a great place to people watch. After lunch make sure to take a ride on the train and the carousel. Finish off your day with some shopping and sweet treats from the Village Sweet Shoppe. 

 

  • Catch at family friendly performance at a local performing arts theatre. Atlantic County is home to 4 such theaters. Throughout the year they offer performances kids will love.

    • Eat while the kids play! – Chick-Fil-A has two restaurants in Atlantic County with indoor playgrounds for the kids.

  • Kids have two choices for roller skating in Atlantic County.
    • Young’s Skating Center – In the heart of Mays Landing at 763 Park Road, kids can roller skate during public skating sessions during various times (check the website for more details). Young’s Skating Center is also part of the Kids Skate Free.     • Hammonton Skating Center – In Hammonton, not far from the Atlantic City Expressway, at 131 South 2nd Road is another Atlantic County roller skating rink. Kids can roller skate at Rollway Roller Rink during public skating sessions on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.   • Ice Skate at the Flyers Skate Zone – Located at 501 North Albany Avenue in Atlantic City, the Flyers Skate Zone is the only place families can ice skate in Atlantic County. Public skating sessions are held daily 12:30 – 2:30 and Friday and Saturday from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm.   • Paint something beautiful! Yes, Atlantic County has plenty of places where kids can create.

MORE Outdoor Things to Do With Kids in Atlantic County

When the sun is shining, the sky is clear, or you just need to get outdoor with the kids we are here to help you. Consider these outdoor things to do with kids in Atlantic County when you are looking for outdoor family fun in New Jersey.

  • Plan a day at or two at one of Atlantic County’s many beaches. Each town along the coast has a great beach to visit. Lifeguards are on duty in most towns Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Check out our listing of local beach tag rates and beach restrictions. Most towns offer one day a week that the beach is free.     • Atlantic City

    • Malibu Beach Wildlife Management Area – (free dog beach) on the Egg Harbor Township end of the Ocean City-Longport Bridge.
    • Margate  
    • Somers Point
      • Municipal Park Beach

        This beach on the bay in Somers Point is a bit of a hidden gem in Atlantic County. The beach has lifeguards in season along with a playground on the beach. There is a fishing pier, public restrooms and free parking which makes this an excellent location for hitting the beach with little kids. This beach is rarely crowded and small enough that you can keep an eye on your kids from the comfort of your beach chair. On Friday nights, in the summer, from 7:00 – 9:00 the Municipal Park Beach is host  the Somers Point Beach Concert Series. Check out our free Somers Points concerts listing for more information.

  • Hike and learn at these Atlantic County nature centers that also have hiking trails.
    • Historic Batsto Village-When you visit Batsto Village you take a trip back in time. Walk around and see the sawmill and blacksmith, the farms and housing, among other buildings, from an earlier time. There is a nature center with information about local plants and wildlife. You can rent canoes and there are numerous hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulties. The Museum and Exhibit Gallery is housed in the Visitors Center and contains permanent displays tracing Batsto’s history. Entrance fees just on weekends and holidays are $5 for NJ residents and $7 for non-NJ residents. Tickets to tour the Mansion are $3 for ages 12 and up, $1 for ages 6-11 and under 6 is free.     • Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. – At this refuge there are opportunities to walk, drive, and explore. Animals such as wild turkey’s, white tailed deer, along with many other animals call the refuge home. Take a walk on one of the many nature trails and have kids spot all the different animals they see. There are several paths to hike of varying lengths, including a very short boardwalk that goes over the marshes. There is a 9-mile drive that takes you out to the edge of the bay with great areas to bird watch. There is a children’s play area where everything is made of natural materials and the visitor’s center has many hands-on items to explore and a large window to bird watch through.  Nature backpacks which include binoculars can be borrowed from the Visitor Center. While at the visitor center pick up a workbook to become a Junior Refuge Manager, complete the book, and your kids will receive a nature badge. Next visit the Nature’s Discovery area where kids can dig for treasure, climb rocks and explore. Make sure to bring your camera to capture all the animals that you spot. The refugee also offers free bird and nature walks. The Refuge is located at 800 Great Creek Road, Oceanville. Admission is based on a drop box that uses the honor system.     • Estell Manor and the Warren E. Fox Nature Center – At Estell Manor you can view live animals and taxidermy animals in the Nature Center. There are many paths to explore and even bikes that are free to borrow (you have to bring your own helmets). The park also has playgrounds, ball fields, swing sets and a volleyball court.   • Watch sheep get shorn at the Swan Bay Folk Art Center in Port Republic. The small, family run farm, has been in business for over 25 years.
