SEE Halloween Trains at Friar Mountain Train Museum

Posted on: October 5th, 2017 by

We first shared the details on the Halloween trains at the Friar Mountain Train Museum in 2012. We’ve updated this for 2017.

2020 Update: The Friar Mountain Model Railroad Museum is currently closed and does not have a reopening date. As of 10/21/2020 their website was no longer online and there was no official Facebook page. I spoke with someone by phone (973) 579-9833 and there were no additional details she could provide.

The owner of Friar Mountain spending a lot of time explaining his trains to my little train enthusiast!

If you have a little boy in your house that loves trains, you are in for a treat.  I took my train obsessed four-year-old boys to the Friar Mount Train Museum located at Demarest Road in Sparta, New Jersey.  The owner is a wonderful man who has loved trains his whole life.  He built the museum and added a great deal of historical memorabilia from George Washington and General Lafayette.  However, the crown jewel of the museum is the 50 x 50 foot train display.

Friar Mount Train Museum Admission Charges

The museum is very inexpensive. Admission is only $6 per person. Children under the age of 4 are free.

More about the Friar Mount Train Museum

The trains are amazing. Even if you or your child is not a huge train fan, this is truly an awesome display. There are many levels to the train platform, mountains, and tunnels.  I counted at least 4 trains running simultaneously during our stay. The scenery and trains are pristine and will reflect the season. In this case, there were many Halloween trains.

One of the nicest things about the Friar Mountain Train Museum is the owner.  He clearly has devoted a good part of his life to trains.   You can tell by how he names the trains and explains how the display was built that this is a life love for him.  He is patient and kind with the children and loves to see them get excited about the trains.

The trains and themes are Halloween themed during the season. There are Peanuts characters dressed in their Halloween costumes. A very large train pulling two cars of eyeballs. And of course my son’s favorite…the ghost train. There are many awesome features of the display like the cable cars descending down the mountain. The Halloween pieces are fascinating and very detailed.

That’s an eye-opening cargo that train is pulling!

History buffs and train enthusiasts will love this as will you!  It takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour to see all of the Friar Mountain Train Museum.  It is well worth the trip!
