I was honored to be invited to the #MaryPoppinsReturnsEvent, a Disney press junket for Mary Poppins Returns and other Disney, Freeform, and ABC TV 25 Days of Christmas programming. As a guest, my expenses were covered in return for a series of articles about my experiences and reviews of the programming.
Allison Holker and Stephen “tWitch” Boss are delightful and charming as hosts for Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas
They may have married 10 years ago at Disney World, but Allison Holker and Stephen “tWitch” Boss are still very much like newlyweds. They gaze at each other, laugh with each other, and check in with each other before answering questions. It’s only natural that they would bring their love for each other and Christmas to two new holiday specials as part of Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas. During our Mary Poppins Returns press junket ABC, the Disney Channel, and Freeform hosted us for a holiday party where we got to meet this joyful couple, talk to them about their new shows, and interview them about their Christmas traditions.
Between chuckles, questions, and picture taking we learned some fun things about Allison Holker and Stephen “tWitch” Boss. Their answers revealed how much they are like us. They love Christmas. They debate how many Christmas trees are needed and they have different memories when it comes to gift giving. What stood out more than anything else for me, was their genuine love and interest in each other.
6 Fun Things we learned about Allison Holker and Stephen “tWitch” Boss during our Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas holiday party and interviews
- Allison Holker has an affinity for nutcrackers. She’s has had to limit herself to buying one new nutcracker a year to keep her collection from getting out of control.
- Allison has a brother serving in the military.
- They disagree about how many Christmas trees to have at home. While tWitch prefers one, Allison is like me. We both like multiple trees, one for the grown up ornaments. A tree for the kids, other trees with themes… Can you ever have too many Christmas trees?
- The couple met on So You Think You Can Dance when they were both invited back for a reunion style competition.
- tWitch started dancing in high school and Allison started at age 11. They have choreographed shows and films together.
- Their family’s favorite Christmas traditions include:
- Getting dressed as a family with a theme in mind for their holiday photos. Last year, they were all members of the Grinch. This year it’s a traditional scene with the baby dressed as Santa.
- They make their own ugly Christmas sweaters.
About Freeform’s Pop Up Santa Holiday Special
For the first time ever as a 90-minute holiday special, Freeform’s Pop Up Santa Holiday Special has teamed up with sponsors to celebrate the spirit of the season through heartwarming moments including a home giveaway, a surprise baby shower at a military base, a family reunion of epic proportions, a celebration for two very special children at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and more. Hosted by Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Allison Holker, the special follows celebrity guests including ballerina Misty Copeland, former NFL athlete DeMarco Murray, “The Fosters’” Sherri Saum, Tommy Martinez from new Freeform drama “Good Trouble,” a special Marvel guest and, of course, Freeform Santa as they team up with Freeform to spread holiday cheer.
In a tear-jerking sneak peek from Pop Up Santa the Brantley Family of Clarksville, Tennessee, is about to experience some holiday magic. After a devastating fire in December 2017, Army veteran Stephen Brantley, his wife Iliana and their four children lost their home and all of their possessions, including photographs and Stephen’s war medals. With the help of former NFL athlete DeMarco Murray and his wife, actress Heidi Mueller, the Brantleys are in for an incredible surprise that will change their lives forever. The “Pop Up Santa Holiday Special” is executive produced by Jack Mori and Wendy Burch.
