The Field of Dreams Playground in Absecon is an accessible inclusive playground at Hackett Park at the Jonathan Pitney Recreation Complex. The playground was built in 2015 and with community support keeps getting better and better. It is one of the most popular Atlantic County parks and one of two accessible playgrounds we know of in Atlantic County.

We initially shared details about this playground in 2016. We returned on August 4, 2022 to get updated details and new pictures for our readers. New pictures coming August 5, 2022.
The playground is also referred to as the South Jersey Field of Dreams playground.
Where is the Field of Dreams Absecon Playground located?
The park is on a private road that leads only to Absecon’s sports fields, with no-through access, keeping it very quiet much of the time. The Field of Dreams is located at 1000 Morton Avenue in Absecon, Atlantic County, New Jersey. The park is part of the South Jersey Field of Dreams and Absecon park system.

What kind of playground equipment does the Field of Dreams have?
This relatively low-to-the-ground playground offers slides, multiple ways to climb, sensory play areas, and even spots to catch some shade. Surrounding the main structure are swings, tables, and a 4-person see-saw.

Are there swings?
There are 2 traditional swings and 2 baby swings on one swing structure.


Another nearby swing structure has 2 accessible swings.

There is also an innovative wheelchair swing we have not seen before at any other New Jersey playground. It’s a wheelchair swing that appears to have benches/seats for family members or friends to swing with the person in the wheelchair. This wheelchair swing is gated in and is not regularly open. Please contact the park for more information about using it.


Are there slides?
There is a side-by-side slide on the main structure.

What special features does the playground offer?
The special features at this playground are the climbing ladders, stepping pods, sensory play, balance beams, and viewfinders.



Additionally, there is a 4-person see-saw.

One thing to note, the playground is on the smaller side. It is great for handicapped accessibility and toddlers, but may seem too small for bigger kids.
What kind of ground cover does the playground have?
Some parts of the ground cover are wood mulch while other parts are bright green rubber padding.

Is the playground at the Absecon Field of Dreams accessible?
Absolutely, the playground was designed and built to be accessible and inclusive. In addition to the accessible swings and wheelchair swing, there is a wide ramp onto the main playground structure. There are accessible sensory play areas on the equipment.


There is a wheelchair-accessible Sway Fun glider attached to the main playground structure.

Is there shade available at the Absecon Field of Dreams Playground?
There is shade under the canopies and under the equipment.

The trees do provide some shade to the picnic tables.

Where is parking for the Field of Dreams Playground?
There is a small parking lot for those permitted to use handicap parking. Outside of that, most families park in the grass inside this park complex or in the parking lot near the soccer and football fields.
Are there restrooms at the Field of Dreams?
The concession stand building has indoor restrooms. They may not always be unlocked, depending on the time of day.
What else is there to do at the Absecon Field of Dreams?
In addition to this Absecon playground, there are additional amenities available for visitors. The pathways between all these amenities is paved.
Are there walking trails?
Families and visitors use the paved paths for walking and bicycling. The path opens up across the tennis courts and follows behind the fields.
Are there fields or courts for sports?
There is an accessible baseball field, a tennis court, a soccer field, and a football field.

Bonus information we want you to know about the Field of Dreams Absecon
Pack snacks or a picnic lunch when visiting this playground, there are lots of benches and picnic tables.

There are times when the road going by the playground is very busy, especially during football season, when the Blue Devils have a home game, or tee ball season, when the younger kids are on the field. Be mindful of the traffic, as the play area is not far from the road, although it is fenced in for the most part.
The Burrows Mini Golf
In 2016, The Field of Dreams added its own 9-hole mini golf course right across from the playground. The mini golf course is run by volunteers, so clubs and balls are only available to borrow during sporting events where there is a volunteer in charge of the course. If you plan to go play mini golf at any other time, you need to bring your own equipment.




Not only does it feature a beloved mascot’s burrow, but you can also find a beautiful 4 ft. chainsaw-carved parrot.
