Volunteer Service Day at Whitesbog Preservation Trust
June 5 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 10:00 am on day First of the month, repeating until December 4, 2021
Please check in at the General Store porch and sign in.
First, a few safety guidelines:
- First and foremost, we need everyone to wear a mask in the buildings and outdoors in close proximity. If you don’t have a mask, please help yourself to one of the ones we have available. We have disposable masks at the General Store next to the hand sanitizer station.
- Please keep a 6′ distance when you are able, working in separate areas is a good idea.
- We have Clorox wipes, Lysol spray and hand sanitizer in many locations to use (please don’t spray Lysol when people are in the room but as you are exiting). We can open windows and let some fresh air in if the weather allows. Please wipe down surfaces you touch including door knobs. We have contact-less soap dispensers in the General Store and Suningive.
- Please wash your hands frequently.
Come out and join our volunteers in outdoor or indoor projects in the village. You can choose from helping in the garden, clearing trails, build kits, paint/stain benches, and helping tidy garden beds or work on a digital project on the computer or helping to organize supplies for events!
Lunch is provided (pizza) and we will be outside. Please take care in the weather and drink plenty of water. Also, take time to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. Check back here for updates depending on the weather (mostly in winter). All ages welcome, children should be accompanied by parents.
Picking up trash along the trails and near waterways
Picking up sticks on trails
Pruning thorny vines along the trails, clearing trail paths
Picking up trash around the dumpster
Breaking down cardboard boxes and putting them in the recycling container
Weeding in the Garden
Building bridges and laying path edges with the Landscape Committee
Helping out at the General Store, putting jams on shelves, cleaning and organizing
Dusting in the museums, exhibits and historic house displays
Some months we may have benches to stain and seal, picnic tables to assemble, kits to put together
Some months we are decorating and changing seasonal displays, volunteers can help put out new table cloths and home items
Suningive: the windows all around the house have collections of dead insects of all shapes and sizes!
They will need to be vacuumed, swept, wiped down. It is quite dusty and we have feather dusters available in the second floor closet at the top of the steps. Suningive office and living room are ready for a wipe down and spruce up, and the kitchen needs dish cleaning and organizing of wedding/event supplies.
Suningive Gardens and Trails: talk with Mark S. about weeding, trail and garden tasks. Many trails need sticks picked up, weeds in the path pruned back and general trash pick up.
The porch of Cottage 12 could use a good sweep and rake around the building. We can wipe down the rocking chairs, mail box, railings, etc. that have dust and pollen on them.
Workdays take place on the First Saturday of each month (except for 4th of July weekend)!
