Bergen County Audubon Society Nature Walks

The Bergen County Audubon Society (BCAS) leads two-hour nature walks – bring binoculars, bug spray and a sense of wonder. Registration is recommended. For more information or to register email Don Torino or call 201.230.4983. For dates, times and locations see below.

Nature Walk Schedule and Locations:

  • January 4: Losen Slote Creek Park, Little Ferry
    • Join the Bergen County Audubon Society as they lead a walk through Losen Slote Creek Park in Little Ferry, one of the Meadowlands’ last remaining low-lying forested areas. They’ll be looking for winter songbirds. Wear boots – the park can be muddy and the terrain a bit tough.
  • January 15: River Barge Park, 260 Outwater Lane, Carlstadt
    • Celebrate all things eagle and learn about the incredible comeback of these remarkable birds. With walks, talks and information tables – talks and tables will be inside. Prizes for kids who bring eagle artwork.

  • January 18: DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst
    • Keep your eyes peeled for winter waterfowl and raptors as the Bergen County Audubon Society leads a walk through DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst, the jewel of the Meadowlands park system.
  • February 2: Mill Creek Marsh, Secaucus
    • Will the Meadowlands Groundhog see his shadow? Hopefully we’ll find out during this Bergen County Audubon Society Groundhog Day Walk at Mill Creek Marsh in Secaucus!
  • February 5: DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst
    • Join the Bergen County Audubon Society on this guided nature walk. Keep your eyes peeled for winter raptors, waterfowl and songbirds.
  • February 12: DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst
    • The Bergen County Audubon Society is leading a walk at DeKorte Park during which prizes will be awarded to the first people who identify birds with the same names as National Football Leauge teams: Falcon, Cardinal, Raven, Eagle, Seahawk (osprey), Giant (great) egret and Giant (great) blue heron and Green Bay Wood (Packer).
  • February 22: Laurel Hill County Park, Secaucus
    • The Bergen County Audubon Society leads a walk through Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus. We’ll look for winter birds with the possibility of more unusual species such as American Pipits, Horned Larks, and Peregrine Falcons.
