Monday Movers Hike Activities

  • July –
    • This month join April on a hike along the Iris Trail. The trail was built in part by the Civilian Conservation Corps as a bridle path. It meanders between boulders along gently sloping terrain, and passes by the beautiful and remote Lake Rutherford. We will be hiking to Lake Rutherford and back making it approximately a 3 1/2-mile hike that will take about 2 hours. The terrain ranges from easy to moderate and the trail surface at times is rocky and uneven, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Meet at the Appalachian Trail parking lot located about a half mile south of the Park Office on Route 23.
  • August –
    • This month join April at Lake Marcia for a pleasant stroll around half the lake then up to the Monument & back down Scenic Road to the Beach Parking Area. The trail is surrounded by beautiful views of the lake and beach, then the monument, to Scenic Road overlook platform then back to the Beach Parking Area. Please note entrance fee for the park is in effect. Meet at the Beach parking lot.
  • September –
    • This month join April on an easy to moderate hike on the Iris Trail. The trail itself is approximately 4.5 miles long down and back, But this month they will be starting at the Decker Town Road Parking area and hiking towards Lake Rutherford and back making it approximately a 3 1/2 mile hike that will take about 2 hours. The trail consists of rocky uneven ground and is a multi-use trail.
  • October –
    • This month join April on a hike along the Monument Trail. This trail offers some of the best views in the park, extending along top of the mountain ridges almost to the New York border. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930’s, sets of stone stairs and borders display their workmanship. This will be a loop hike covering about 3.5 miles round-trip on the red & green trails. The terrain ranges from moderate to difficult and the trail surface at times is rocky, uneven, and has some steep climbs so sturdy footwear is recommended. Meet at the Interpretive Center Parking Area.
  • November –
    • This month join April on the Mashipacong/Ayers Loop Trail. This is an easy to moderate trail with variable trail surfaces on the yellow Mashipacong Trail and connecting with the easy fairly level Ayers Trail. The Ayers Trail was the road that led to the Ayers Farm, established in 1870. Today the fields, bordered by impressive stone walls are maintained through annual control burns that help preserve the field habitat. Mashipacong Trails southwestern section was part of the first roads over the ridge. Remnants of small farms can be seen here. The trail crosses small streams, follows an old road, and climbs over a rocky ridge ending behind the park office. A loop hike can be made by combining the southern portion of this trail with the Ayers Trail, and walking short distances along Sawmill and Park Ridge Roads. Meet at the Winter Trail Parking Lot. The hike is approximately 3 1/2 miles long and should take about 2 hours.
  • December –
    • This month join April on the Access Road To Lake Rutherford. This is an easy to moderate trail with variable trail surfaces & we will hike approximately 3 1/2 miles long and should take about 2 hours.
