Moms can make things happen!

At Jersey Family Fun we are often invited to amazing, family fun activities. It’s rare that we are able to step into an important adult conversation with other amazing working moms, but recently we did just that. Hosted by Chime by Sittercity, we were invited to a lunch at Sarabeth’s in NYC to speak with other bloggers, journalists, and women in the know about policies, parenting and more. Leading the discussion was Genevieve Thiers, mom of 4 year old twins and the founder of Sittercity.

If you haven’t heard of or used Sittercity, know that they are the pioneer in online childcare! You can find nannies, after school sitters, date night sitters and more through this trusted and essential website. They have served over 8 million members, provided free memberships to over 100,000 military families, not to mention given thousands of childcare providers access to paid work! The motivated and successful Genevieve Thiers didn’t stop there; more about her latest innovation, Chime by Sittercity, in a bit.

Our lively conversation covered mommy brain, childcare, women in tech and politics, and just how great Sarabeth’s food was (seriously, the velvety cream of tomato soup – wow!)  But the discussions didn’t stop with the dining. We all gathered up our ideas and walked to the offices of Working Mother magazine to participate in a Facebook live chat with Jennifer Owen, the magazine’s editor in chief. These two working moms in the know shared some great information about the candidates and their policies on childcare and family leave. Watch below:

I returned home to the world of homework, hungry dogs, and crockpots that weren’t turned on, but was encouraged by the power of moms!

Having trouble with your childcare?

Find your next great babysitter with Chime by Sittercity. Chime is an on demand and FREE service to find trusted sitters in your area. The Chime team handpicks and interviews each available sitter to provide you with the best Sittercity has to offer. Chime is newly launched in New Jersey, currently available in Hoboken, Jersey City and Weehawken, but is expanding rapidly. Since they handpick each sitter, setting up Chime’s database takes time, but it’s worth it! Look for them to expand in urban centers and suburbs throughout our area.

We don’t need to tell you how important this election is. We may not all agree on the candidates, but we can all agree that voting is our civic duty. Voting with kids can be a great lesson in civics, or a disaster! If you fall on the side of disaster, let Chime by Sittercity help you get out the vote this November 8.

Use code ELECTION at www.hellochime.com to get $60 in Chime credits! That’s about 4 hours of babysitting that allows time for voting as well as errands, or coffee with a friend to talk about this crazy election season.

After you push those voting buttons, it’s your chance to win! On Facebook, post a photo of your I Voted sticker or anything voting related (tastefully done only, please!) and tag Chime by Sittercity with the hashtag #IChimedIn. You could win 100 hours in Chime babysitting AND $500!

Moms can change the world! Start (or keep going!) by casting your vote this election year!

Melanie is a stay at home mom of a 6 year old boy and 10 year old girl. She lives in Union County and grew up in Middlesex County. Her children enjoy ice skating (she holds the shoes), crafting, amusement parks, and just generally being kids! Melanie always says, being 45 minutes from NYC or the Jersey Shore makes this the best place to live!
