Where is Carteret Park Playground located?
Carteret Park is located at Carteret Avenue and Cypress Street in Carteret in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The park is part of the Carteret park system.
What kind of playground equipment does Carteret Park have?
This playground is part of a large park and there is more equipment than you might find in a regular neighborhood playground. There is a preschool structure and a large playground structure with several slides. There’s also stand alone features that add to the playground fun.
Are there swings?
There are two swing structures. In the preschool/toddler area there is a swing structure with 4 baby swings.
At the end of the older kids area, there is a structure with 5 traditional swings.
Are there slides?
There are A LOT of slides at this playground in Carteret. Starting with the preschool/toddler structure there are 2 slightly curvy slides.
The older kids playground has at least 11 slides coming from every side. There are side-by-side slides, curvy slides, and one twisting slide.
What special features does the playground offer?
It’s all about the climbing, sliding, and moving at this Carteret playground. There’s quite the variety of monkey bars.
There are climbing ladders and towers that are part of larger playground structures as well as stand alone features.
What kind of ground cover does the playground have?
The ground cover under the playgrounds is wood mulch.
Is the playground at Carteret Park accessible?
There is not a lot of accessibility at this playground. Between the playgrounds and the bandshell there is a separate area with oversized musical instruments. That area is accessible. There are no accessible swings or ground level play in the main playground areas. The sprayground could be considered accessible.
Is there shade available at Carteret Park?
There are no shady areas on the playground equipment itself but there are shady areas under the equipment. There are picnic tables under the trees.
Across the grass there is a bandshell that can also serve as a shady spot.
Where is parking for the Carteret Park Playground?
There is a large parking lot.
Are there restrooms at Carteret Park Playground?
We did not see any buildings with restrooms or port-a-potties available. The park map does show there should be some at the far end of the pond.
What else is there to do at Carteret Park?
In addition to the playground at Carteret Park, there are a few additional amenities available for visitors.
Carteret Park Sprayground
The sprayground is definitely what draws A LOT of visitors to the park. On our visit, it was completely empty. It was an overcast day, but we were still surprised. The spray park takes on a musical theme with guitars, a saxophone, a path of musical notes, and other structures all spraying or dropping water on visiting guests.
The Carteret Park Sprayground does have a schedule of hours as you can see below. During those times the sprayers will be on and there will be an attendant on duty.
Are there walking trails?
There is a nice walking path around the park and the park’s pond.
Are there fields or courts for sports?
We did not see any fields or courts, but there is open grassy area. The park map does show that there are courts and fields elsewhere in the park.
