Our family restaurant review returns with a visit to the California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill
Our first visit with the California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill wasn’t really a real visit… but to my kids pretending to make a California Pizza Kitchen at the Garden State Discovery Museum was as close to the real thing as they thought they could get.
The only thing that could make that experience better was to make a California Pizza Kitchen Pizza for real. Last week, we did just that when I surprised my kids with a visit to the California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill. We started the day, first with making pretend pizzas at the museum and then ended it with a late lunch making the real thing. What a great time we had!
We had our lunch later in the day to avoid the lunch hour rush and were greeted by such a friendly staff. The sign at the hostess station gave it away. My boys knew they were going to get to make their own pizzas and they were giggly with excitement. While normally their noise and jumpiness would make me nervous at a restaurant it wasn’t an issue at the California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill. The restaurant has a laid-back, casual feel that makes it a great option for a family meal out or dinner date. There were tables and booths. Our large booth was perfect for the boys because they had plenty of room to bounce around without being in anyone’s way.
We did get a bit of VIP treatment with John, the interim general manager, waiting on us. But watching him move about the restaurant it felt like most guests get that same level of service. He moved about the restaurant, checking in with guests about their experience, but did it without ever making you feel like he was rushing away to greet another guest. I loved that one of John’s first questions was about food allergies. From the beginning, he wanted to make sure we had food that we could eat or addressed any potential issues. California Pizza Kitchen offers menus that fit the needs of their guests. (Allergen, Gluten-Free, Vegetarian and Vegan menus) It also helps when your manager is a dad. Over our meal he swapped stories with my kids about Lego Chima and things boys collect.
We moved on to ordering food. I was thrilled that the California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill offers so many options for the kids. Starting with beverages, it’s not just milk and juice, but California Pizza Kitchen had milk, chocolate milk, lemonade, juice, and fountain drinks like Root Beer. And I don’t know about your kids but mine always seem to suck down their drinks before the meal even arrives. It’s not an issue at California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill because drink refills are free. Then, theirs the kid’s menu. Just take a look.
California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill Kid’s Menu
This isn’t your typical kid’s menu. Fries aren’t on the menu. What is? Is several choices for pasta, chicken, and pizzas. My boys made their own pizzas. It wouldn’t be a California Pizza Kitchen experience without doing that. Take a look at the video.
For me, the gluten-free mom, I sampled the White Corn Guacamole with corn tortilla chips. I say sample, because my kids devoured it so quickly there wasn’t much left for me. We all found it to be quite yummy. It was my boys first time trying guacamole so I am glad it was such a big hit for them. I just wish they were better sharers. Next time, we’ll have to order two.
As my boys had their pizzas I tried two of the California Pizza Kitchen salads, the Caramelized Peach and the Asparagus & Arugula salad. Both were great but my favorite was the Caramelized Peach with Grilled Chicken. I loved the combination of flavors. Spinach with peaches is not something I have tried before, but it was delicious. There are 7 entree options on the California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill Gluten-Free menu and more are in development.
Of course, a meal wouldn’t be complete without desert. I was stuffed but my boys shared dishes of ice cream, a Salted Caramel Pudding, and butter cake with ice cream. I didn’t hear any complaints. Actually, I didn’t hear much because they just kept eating till nothing was left. ;-)
As we let our food digest, John was gracious enough to give us a behind the scenes tour of the California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill.
Here’s what we learned going behind the scenes at California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill
- Everything was clean and well-kept.
- 96% of the food prep is done on site.
- There were separate refrigerators and storage areas for keeping foods separate and at the right temperature.
- There is a bar area so adults can have an alcoholic beverage with their meal.
- The California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill is energy-efficient with motion-sensor lights in the storage areas.
- Their staff are pleasant and courteous.
- California Pizza Kitchen listens to their customers. As a result they have replaced Pepsi with Coke. Diners looking for Diet Coke or other Coke beverages can now enjoy them.
- You can find pictures of our behind the scenes tour at California Pizza Kitchen Cherry Hill.
As you can see we had a great time.
