Where is Birch Grove Park located?
Birch Grove Park is located at 1675 Burton Avenue in Northfield, Atlantic County. The park is part of the Northfield City park system.
What kind of playground equipment does Birch Grove Park have?
The Birch Grove Park playground has two main playground structures for kids to climb and play on.
The smaller structure offers an angled ABC climbing platform, ladder, tunnel, and steering wheel.
The larger playground structure has unique climbing ladders, a rope climbing wall, and slides.
What changed at this playground?
Previously, the playgrounds were more spread apart from each other. There were also more stand-alone structures such as a monkey-bar dome, monkey bars, a school bus, and ride on toys.
The area outside of the playground area also had mulch. It’s currently dirt. We’re not sure if there are plans to replace the mulch.
Are there swings?
There is one swing structure that has 6 traditional swings.
There is a second structure that has 2 baby swings.
Are there slides?
All of the slides are open slides. The smaller structure has a side-by-side slide and a slightly twisting slide.
The other larger structure has 2 slides as well. One of them is a taller side-by-side slide. The other is slightly twisting slide.
What special features does the playground offer?
The smaller structure has a tunnel, steering wheeling, and an angled ABC platform to climb.
There is a climbing web and climbing wall on the larger playground structure and unique climbing ladders. There are two stand-alone spinners.
What kind of ground cover does the playground have?
The playground is embedded into the ground and the ground cover of wood mulch is enclosed with sturdy plastic borders. Outside of the mulch area, the ground is dirt. There is grass between the dirt, trails, and paved sidewalks.
Is the playground at Birch Grove Park accessible?
Unfortunately, with the removal of the old equipment, the playground equipment is not accessible. There are no ramps onto the equipment or accessible swings on the swingsets.
Is there shade available at Birch Grove Park?
There is a shady play area on the larger playground.
Shade is also available at the pavilion. Picnic tables are available.
Where is parking for the Birch Grove Park?
Birch Grove Park has a dirt parking lot on both sides of the road leading into the park. One lot is on the right facing the pond. While the other parking lot is on the left side facing the playground and gazebo. Overflow parking is available at the baseball fields.
Are there restrooms at Birch Grove Park ?
The building at the pavilion has two restrooms that face toward the playground. There is also a port-a-potty at the far end of the dirt parking lot.
What else is there to do at Birch Grove Park?
In addition to the playground at Birch Grove Park, there are additional amenities available for visitors.
Are there walking trails?
YES! Birch Grove Park has a number of trails for walking or hiking through the woods and around the pond. They are relatively easy and can be walked in loops or out and back.
Are there fields or courts for sports?
There are baseball fields right outside of Birch Grove Park, but no official fields in the park. There are large open areas of dirt where guests could play a pick up game of soccer, kickball, or other sports.
Bonus information we want you to know about Birch Grove Park
Birch Grove Park used to offer camping. However, with the 2019 season, Birch Grove Park stopped operating as a campground. The campground portion of the park has been left to revert to its natural state.
Concerts, Movies, and More
There is a beautiful gazebo with benches around it in a nice grassy area before you get to the playground. During the warmer months, Northfield offers movies, concerts, and other family events at the park. Some of them take place at the gazebo and others happen at the pavilion overlooking the pond.
