What began as a rainy Saturday (March 31, 2012) quickly became an Animal Party at the NJPAC in Newark, courtesy of the Laurie Berkner Band. A stage, decorated with animals, set the tone, as well as the band who wore stuffed animals on their heads. There were kids of all ages and they were ready to paaarty!
We had an unsettling moment as we walked in the auditorium. This being Zoe’s first concert, she was overwhelmed by the size and the number of people. But once the music started she was bouncing all over.
The band started with Victor Vito and the kids were out of their seats from the start. During Blast Off Laurie had the kids jumping up like rockets. There was not a still child in sight, whether they were dancing or running up to the stage.
The band performed new songs as well as some familiar ones; including Zoe’s favorite—I’m Gonna Catch You—you could hear some of the other kids singing along, as were some of the parents, including myself.
In honor of Zoe’s favorite song, Jenn added in this video.
At the end of the show each child got to choose a stuffed toy. Zoe chose a fish we named Sheldon—she loves him!
If you have a child that likes music, definitely check the Laurie Berkner Band site to see when they will be back in town and where they will be next on tour.
