Can someone please tell me what Gov Christie says about this. Im so confused in what to do? Thanks

    • So far we only know that he is expected to make a statement about Halloween and possibly cancelling it for tonight. We have not heard anything else and for now still believe that each town is deciding what to do for their area unless a County State of Emergency takes precedent. We are confused as well but will continue to update our readers with what we find out. – Jenn

    Governor Christie postpones Halloween

Don’t put those costumes on yet and hold onto that candy until next week.

Governor Christie signed an executive order this morning rescheduling Halloween to Nov. 5 because of unsafe conditions in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

“I’ve taken this action to minimize additional risks to lives and the public safety as we begin the process of rebuilding and recovering from Hurricane Sandy,” Christie said in a statement. “In too many communities in our state, the damage and losses from this storm are still being sorted out and dangerous conditions abound even as our emergency management and response officials continue their work.”
Several municipalities in North Jersey had postponed Halloween until Saturday. But Christie said he’s concerned it will still be dangerous for children to be out then.

“As governor, it is my responsibility to use all available resources of the state government to protect against the emergency created by Hurricane Sandy – postponing Halloween celebrations by five days is a commonsense and necessary step to accomplish that,” he said.

    Guess this changes everything!

  34. Melissa says:

Chris Christie signed an Executive order postponing Halloween until Monday!

  35. Dana says:

Since Gov. Christie announced this morning that Halloween will now be Monday, are these Trick-or-Treat schedules still accurate?

  44. B Mor says:

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has signed an Executive Order designating Monday, November 5 as Halloween in New Jersey. While Mount Laurel Township and Schools previously announced that Halloween would be observed on Friday to allow for clean-up from the storm in local neighborhoods, both entities have agreed to comply with the Governor’s Order.
“Mount Laurel was very lucky not to have sustained tremendous damage during the hurricane. While many of our residents are without power, we did not experience the devastation that was felt as close as the barrier islands all along our coast. Our decision to join other towns in the state in a late observance of Halloween,” said Superintendent Dr. Antoinette Rath, “is one of solidarity with them and respect for the Governor and the job our state officials have done in protecting our safety.”
All Mount Laurel School Parades and parties will be held on Monday, November 5. A complete list of events and times will be posted on each school webpage.

  45. Ashley says:

I’m disappointed Gloucester twp is still on Monday.. I’m guessing since its there final decision it def won’t change back to Friday?

  56. Amanda says:

Do we have any idea if 2016 halloween trick or treating we still be on Monday the 31st, or is there a chance townships could reschedule to a non-school night during the weekend before?? (Warren County)

  57. Angela says:

The links for each county takes you to the same exact page which has absolutely nothing to do with Halloween and trick or treating.
I’m a new mom and last year I took my son to New York. This year we are staying here and I know from working in childcare in the past that trick or treating in towns sometimes is changed if it fell on a weekday. Have no idea when I can take my son in Morris county (Rockaway township)

    • Jennifer A. says:

Angela, I disagree. The pages make look the same with the same format but the information on them is different. When you click on a county’s link you will be taken to our ‘calendar’ that lists the trick or treat times we have for the towns in that county. Our Calendar is the same regardless of what kind of event or the county of the event (that is why it looks the same), but the events listed are different. For example the Trick or Treat event calendar for Morris County is empty because we are currently researching those times. However, the first one listed for Warren County is Washington Township Trick or Treating.
