On April 28, Sesame Place opened their doors and kicked off the 2012 season. It is lining up to be another fantastic season, a new show, great concerts and even some new menu items are happening this year.
Our day started with their traditional Sesame Place Opening Day Character arrival parade, everyone’s favorite furry friends arrive in style in Corvettes. The parade is a huge hit with the kids, everyone is waving and clapping for their pals (Elmo easily got the most applause!) and the men in the crowd were in awe of the Corvettes. My husband really enjoyed seeing the cars and telling my son what year each Corvette was.
After the parade, we went on Vapor Trail. This was the first year my son was ready for it, so it was a big moment in Sesame Place history for all of us. This was our 3rd year visiting Sesame Place and our son has loved watching Vapor Trail since our first visit and has asked about riding it non stop. He said he was a little nervous at first but loved it so much, he wanted to ride it over and over. I think our final count was 5 times.
Unfortunately, it was too cold for my family to enjoy the water activities (however, we did see people in the water!). We are looking forward to warmer days so that we can return and check out the wet fun Sesame Place has to offer.
The Teeny Tiny Tidal Wave was a hit with my son last year and looked so refreshing and inviting! The maximum depth is 24 inches so it’s great for the smaller ones to splash and play in.

One of my son’s favorite rides is the Mix ‘n’ Match Twiddle Tracks, they are pump carts tucked back in the corner of Twiddlebug Land. They seem to be a hidden gem of Sesame Place. My son would pump his way around the track all day if we let him!
While we didn’t need the misters on Saturday, during the warmer days these are wonderful! Not only do they feel great but kids love playing in them! They are almost an attraction in themselves!
There is a lot to do, even without getting wet! Some highlights are
- Mix ‘n’ Match Twiddle Tracks
- Fruit Stand, fire truck and the famous Sesame Street Steps on the Sesame Street Neighborhood
- Elmo’s World (including the Cloud Chaser that just opened in 2011)
- Nets ‘n’ Climb
- 3 different shows and the parade!
- Teeny Tiny Tidal Wave
- Sky Splash
- The Counts Splash Castle
- Ernie’s Waterworks
Exciting events to look forward to this year are
- Concerts on select weekends (reservations required) and special Dine With Me events (additional fee)
- Nighttime parade starting June 18th and running through September 4th.
- Fireworks on May 27, July 4 and September 2
- Counts Halloween Spooktacular starting 9/29, weekends only
- A Very Furry Christmas select dates starting November 17th
New this year is the show Let’s Play Together and it’s adorable! It had the audience dancing, clapping and singing along! The show teaches kids about friendship and how to play together. It is a must see!
Sit by the “do not sit here” spots to be close to the characters. They come up here and dance during parts of the show!
