Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen – Convenience, flavor, and variety!

Finding a place to eat while visiting New York City can be wonderful! Absolutely every cuisine is available, you can dine in a fancy place, at a food truck, at a take out, inside or outside. Eating in New York City can also be intimidating, expensive, time consuming and frustrating, especially if you have picky children! I have never known the ease of children who will eat any cuisine, and that leaves me often wanting; a restaurant that offers familiar menu items, isn’t going to cost what I’d spend on groceries for the week, and doesn’t have a long wait for a table. Someday I can visit NYC and indulge but as many of us parents know, now is just not my time.

We’ve walked past Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen plenty of times, since it is in a high profile location in the New York Times building, just across the street from the Port Authority. This neighborhood of course has infinite dining options, but being Times Square, it’s BUSY! And some of the restaurants are known to increase pricing compared to other city locations, so it’s important to pay attention to the restaurant menus.

A recent weeknight brought us into Manhattan for a movie in Times Square and in my planning where to eat I remembered Schnipper’s. After a glowing recommendation from a friend who works nearby, we headed to this Times Square restaurant for our pre-movie meal. They advertise “good old-fashioned American food” and that’s just what we needed!

The extensive menu at Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen

As I said, Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen is at the corner of 41st and 8th Avenue, in the shadow of the Port Authority and inside the famed New York Times building. It’s all glass so you can see right in and know if you’re going to wait for a table – but chances are you can bring in a large party with no problem! Tables are long, cafeteria style, and there’s even outdoor seating at this New York City restaurant.

When you enter, you will need a few moments with the extensive menu board. This could take a while! Menu options at Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen include:

  • Burgers
  • Hot Dogs
  • Tacos
  • Sandwiches
  • Sloppy Joes
  • milkshakes
  • Salads
  • French Fries (with multiple toppings)
  • Mac and Cheese
  • And more!!

We did eventually decided on our meals, and both children were happy to have hamburgers.  I was happy to let them knowing it was Natural Creekstone Farms American Beef (and that I’d be stealing a bite!). After we placed our order, we were given a buzzer and we headed to our table. A great bonus for me was the water dispenser near the register. My kids always choose water with their meals and at Schnippers’ – no need to purchase bottles!

Because Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen knows what their customers want and aims to please families, we were given our milkshakes first! Why not, right?! They were delicious and though there were a lot of flavor options, we chose the old standby of Cookies and Cream. Shortly after, our food was delivered and we dug in. My Chipotle Caesar Salad was enormous! I’m a fan of spicy foods and this was just right. My kids stole all the house made croutons off my plate though – as if their hamburgers weren’t enough! They devoured them too, and we all loved the side of french fries. Next time I’m getting mine with cheese!

My friend is a fan of their Sloppy Joes and this one was as good as she expected. We cleaned our plates and lingered for a while, as we watched the busy-ness of Times Square commuters through the large windows.

Schnippers Quality Kitchen realizes diets vary these days, and they offer gluten free buns, as well as no use of peanut oil. The kitchen does have peanut products, so be sure to ask when ordering.

As their name says, their food truly was QUALITY. We left feeling like there’s no reason to stress about eating in Times Square any more. Whether we want a quick meal, or time to sit and relax, we can stop at Schnipper’s for a meal or a snack, and not break the bank.

Not in Times Square? No worries – there’s 3 other Schnipper’s Quality Kitchens in NYC!  Locations are at: 8th AVENUE & 41st • 23rd STREET & MADISON • 570 LEXINGTON AT 51st • ONE NY PLAZA. Hours vary by location.

In a rush? You can order online from their website for pick up.
