Move over James Bond, Agent Prime is the new Spy in town!

We were recently given the opportunity to try Operation Math by Spinlight Studio. This is their first app that focuses on older children from 5-12 years of age. The app works with their basic math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, but is far more than your basic math game. You won’t find flashcards in this app. What you will find is a math adventure, great graphics, music and narration that make you feel as if you are a professional spy on a mission. The premise of the game centers around Agent Prime (you) defeating the evil Dr. Odd on his quest to rid the world of even numbers. Can you imagine a world without even numbers?

When the game opens you are able to choose one of 3 player slots.  This works perfectly for my family, three kids ages, 7, 10 and 12, who were going to be trying out the app. Upon picking your slot, Agent Prime is welcomed and taken to a screen to choose Agent Prime’s uniform and spy watch. While only having the choice of one uniform and watch the kids were a bit upset, but got excited once they realized the more missions they completed the more items they could unlock.

There are a total of 30 watches and uniforms At this point they can decide to either start a new mission or go to training. We decided to go with training first. How were we to beat Dr. Evil if we didn’t brush up on our skills? Clicking on training led us into the Base10 Training room. You can train as long as you like and your performance will be tracked. My favorite feature of the training room is that you can tailor Agent Prime to your level of skill whether that be easy, medium or hard. Once you feel you are confident to set forth on a mission you can exit the training room and proceed, just remember you only have 60 seconds to complete your missions so make sure you are ready, then get set, and GO defeat Dr. Evil.

There are 105 missions to complete and as you advance through the games the math skills become harder. They challenge the children without frustrating them. If you fail a mission you can always go back to the training room and practice the skills needed to succeed. Another feature I enjoyed is they lead you on a chase around the world. You get to visit places like Chicago IL, Italy, Nepal and even the UK giving the kids a mini geography lesson as well. We have thoroughly enjoyed using this app and the kids can’t get enough of it. They are having a great time finding Dr. Odd’s bases, completing missions, and unlocking super cool spy swag.

Take a look at this video to see all that Operation Math has to offer.

Please note that Operation Math is for the iPad only.

In full disclosure, Spinlight Studio provided us a promotional code to download Operation Math for no charge. However, no monetary compensation was made for this review. All opinions are honest and our own and come from experience with this app. We hope you will give it a try for your elementary aged children.
