We originally published this article about NYC Broadway Week in January 2016 and will continue to keep it updated as new information and sales dates become available.
New York City is a place of wonder, possibility, and the best arts and entertainment in the world. It can also be a budget busting trip no matter how nearby you live. Of course New Jersey has plenty to offer and we will keep telling you about it, but in 2017, Jersey Family Fun wants to help you visit the Big Apple more, and spend less while doing it. Have you considered making a visit during NYC Broadway Week?
We’ve told you about the annual Kids Night on Broadway event, where you can get one free ticket to a Broadway show when you purchase one. If you missed that, be sure to mark your calendar for August 18th at 10:30 AM to purchase 2 for 1 tickets for Broadway Week!
Exposing your children to theater can be impossible with the high cost of shows on and off Broadway. Don’t miss this chance to treat your children, and yourself to the excitement of New York City theater. The talent of the performers, and the staging is second to none and you might see the next Idina Menzel or Lin-Manuel Miranda; they all had to start somewhere (sorry, Hamilton tickets NOT included in deal!).
This Fall’s Broadway Week will run from September 4- September 17. Shows are traditionally every day except Monday, with matinees on Wednesdays and weekends. See family favorites like Aladdin, Wicked or The Lion King; or try a new production like School of Rock or Bandstand. Some of the old classics are back as well, like The Phantom of the Opera or Cats. Or get a babysitter and make it a date night. No matter what you choose, a night spent on Broadway is a treat for any age. Tickets are sure to sell fast so be ready on the 18th with your wish list and your fastest internet connection.
NYC Broadway Week is presented by NYC & Company, the official tourism organization of New York City.
We took the family to see Aladdin during the last Broadway week, and my daughter saw Beautiful during Kids Night on Broadway 2015. This year we’re hoping for tickets for Wicked for the whole family. Concerned about the cost to get into NYC? Kids under 12 ride NJ Transit for free on the weekends. Where to eat? We love Schnipper’s, just steps away from Times Square at 41st Street and 8th Avenue. You’ll have a great time in New York City whether you come just for the show, or make a day out of it. Want to spend the night? We can help with that too, with our review of the Westin Times Square.
Broadway Week Shows for 2017 include:
- A Bronx Tale
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- A Doll’s House Part 2
- Groundhog Day
- Hello Dolly
- Kinky Boots
- The Lion King
- Miss Saigon
- The Phantom of the Opera
- The Play That Goes Wrong
- Prince of Broadway
