Everyone knows Monopoly! There’s character-based versions of Monopoly, traditional Monopoly, online Monopoly, special place Monopoly and more. Now with some creativity and some set up time, you can make your own version of Monopoly that will engage your kids, and make the winnings more personal! With some planning and picture gathering this could be a great graduation gift, wedding gift, or even a teacher gift at the end of the school year. The possibilities are endless for the personalization, and the game can be played with the traditional streets/tokens as well. If your children haven’t yet experienced this essential New Jersey game, this might be the version to try!

What My Monopoly includes:

  • Gameboard
  • 4 tokens
  • 30 blank tiles
  • 4 sticker sheets (30 stickers per sheet)
  • 28 title deed cards
  • 16 chance cards
  • 16 community chest cards
  • 32 houses
  • 12 red hotels
  • 2 dice
  • Money pack
  • Game instructions

How do you play My Monopoly?

  • You can choose to personalize the player pieces, streets, and some of the chance/community chest cards or leave them standard. All spaces and cards are already labeled, your stickers will cover that wording.
  • Using the MyMonopoly app (or website from a computer), you choose pictures to be printed onto the sticker sheets included in the game. You can caption the pictures as well, which we did for the chance/community chest cards. I used the computer-based website because our devices are not connected to our printer. The website (and app) allow you to access pictures from Shutterfly, Facebook, or your computer. Follow the instructions EXACTLY so no sheets are wasted – set your print settings so that it is NOT “fit to page.”
  • Once the stickers have printed the setup is quick.
  • There are no rule changes that I noticed with this version. It involves buying properties, going to jail, and doing a lot of math! The game can be long, so be prepared for a marathon Monopoly game!

My Monopoly Game Review

My 9 year old and 4 year old had not yet played a game of Monopoly, so I was curious to see if they’d be ready. We invited their friends ages 8 and 10, printed everyone’s pictures for the game pieces and got to playing! I stayed nearby and was the banker until they got the hang of the game. There was a lot of laughs about some of the personalization we did (we set up all the streets to be Disney characters using pictures from our trips) and along the way there was a whole lot of math! Making change and counting out rent. We didn’t get into the mortgaging and the percentages, but with older kids you can play by the exact rules. For our younger ones we bent the rules so they could have houses because that made it more fun for them. It was great to see the strategies some came up with – buy all the properties right away? Wait for others to run out of money and buy them at a discount? Pay to get out of jail or take your chances rolling the dice?

We played for a good hour that kept everyone interested. The boys who are younger started to fade off, but the girls could have played much longer. As always it’s a great rainy day game – start early and play long!
