It’s Holiday Time in Paleyland!
The Paley Center for Media in New York City is celebrating the holiday season this year with their free exhibit, It’s Holiday Time in Paleyland! My girls and I were recently invited to a pre-screening of the event, which was a real treat!
Holiday Time in Paleyland Activities
As soon as we walked in, the girls were given activity sheets to complete with clues they found around Paleyland. After completing their sheets, they had a chance to meet some of the Rockettes, who were there for this special opening event! The Rockettes’ wooden soldier costumes from the Holiday Spectacular were on display in Paleyland as well, where they will remain throughout the Holiday Time in Paleyland exhibit.
Holiday Time in Paleyland Treats
Next, we had to visit the refreshment area, where there were way too many goodies for us to try them all! From cake pops, which seemed to be a favorite of all the children, to beautifully decorated snowflake cookies, to popcorn and dried banana chips, there was something for everyone! To top it off, there was also a hot cocoa bar, complete with homemade whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate chips, and cinnamon sticks! Yum!
Time with Santa at Holiday Time in Paleyland
Next, the girls were ready to visit with Santa, in his igloo, which was decorated beautifully for the event! Santa spoke with the kids, making sure to get their wish lists before snapping a picture. This keepsake photo was ready to pick up just minutes later, while the girls worked on some arts and crafts. Crafts are always my girls’ favorite part of an event like this, so they made sure to make one of each, a snow globe ornament and a puppet.
Even more Holiday Time in Paleyland Activities & Entertainment
After finishing our crafts, we were able to witness the unveiling of the original yule log footage from 50 years ago, which was televised annually on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning from 1974 until 1989. Downstairs in the theater, there was also a continuous showing of classic holiday movies, like “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, “Frosty the Snowman”, and many more.
