The Harmonica Pocket: Sundrops CD
Now that the weather is colder, and the days are shorter, we cannot help but long for those fun-filled summer days. We are always looking for a way to brighten up our days and our moods. Music is one of those therapies for us as a family. We love The Harmonica Pocket because of the cheery tones and uplifting acoustics in their album, Sundrops.
One of the unique parts of this album is that it was made entirely on solar power. That’s pretty impressive. This album is all about enjoying the simple things in life such as singing in the sun, splashing in puddles, digging in the dirt, and just soaking up days with one another. We love the song “Are You A Monster Too?” The kiddos especially love running around pretending to be monsters, they always squeal “AGAIN!” once it’s over because they could listen to it on repeat all day if I’d let them.
Another family favorite is “You Are My Sunshine”, mostly because I’ve sang this song to Abby since she was born. It’s a part of our nightly bedtime routine. So she loves singing this as well. It reminds me of my childhood and my grandmother singing it to me.
About The Harmonica Pocket
The Harmonica Pocket begins as the swinging songs of songwriter Keeth Monta Apgar. He delivers thick jazz chord progressions with storytelling lyrics wrapped up into thoughtful, mature songs.
Harmonica Pocket songs are brought to life by a rotating musical gang of players, and are as diverse as the musicians who play on them. Along with numerous other players, instruments, and sounds, Harmonica Pocket regulars include:
- Keeth Monta Apgar – acoustic wah-wah guitar
- Jon Ryser – alto saxophone
- Nala Walla – vocal harmony and hula hoop
- PK – stand up bass
As both a recording and live performance project, The Harmonica Pocket is known for its outside-the-box, headphone-pop, and highly improvised live shows laced with unusual cover songs. The Harmonica Pocket also tours a children’s show which has performed in sold out theaters, clubs, classrooms and libraries, and festivals nationally and internationally.
The Harmonica Pocket’s 2012 release Apple Apple, a Parent’s Choice Gold Award winner, is a truly all-ages album made for families to listen to together. Silly, sweet, and catchy songs about babies, a bird with a fear of heights, and even a diaper-wearing superhero make for a playful listen for kids and grownups alike. “A melodic dream” and full of “cool guitars…and mature lyrics,” the album was produced at The Harmonica Pocket’s solar-powered studio on a tiny island in Washington State.
The Harmonica Pocket has charted on core college and non-commercial CMJ radio stations around the country, is being played on satellite radio, MTV and other cable stations, and is currently being downloaded all over the planet.
