In full disclosure we were given 5 passes to enjoy Diggerland USA, a Jersey Family Fun Partner in Fun. We appreciate their support of Jersey Family Fun and our efforts to share fun New Jersey amusement parks with our readers. As always, all opinions are our own.
“What should I tell our readers about Diggerland USA?”
“IT WAS AWESOME!”
You know those activities or trips you wait all summer to do?
The ones when it doesn’t matter if you’ve had the most amazing summer up until that point, it’s THAT THING that you can’t wait to do? For us, that was our trip to Diggerland USA. My 6 year old son couldn’t stop talking about it! On the last day of August we brought our two friends, one also age 6 and his 9 year old brother. It was hot hot hot, but that didn’t matter. With some trips to the snack bar and some stops in the shade we braved the heat and had a great time. Despite Diggerland USA being a Jersey Family Fun Partner in Fun since it opened, this writer and none of the other 4 of us had ever been there! It didn’t disappoint. Diggerland USA isn’t big area wise but it’s big on fun – to make the most of your time, we are sharing our tips for enjoying Diggerland USA.
3 Can’t Miss Activities at Diggerland USA!
Get behind the controls of those machines!
We don’t have to tell you how unique Diggerland USA is. A child only needs to stand 42 inches tall to operate a digger? Unheard of and so exciting! There is a row of Mini Diggers that kids can operate to pick up ducks, bowl, and of course dig. Big Diggers are available too and they certainly aren’t just for kids!
Once you’ve dug to your heart’s content, it’s time to drive. Skid steers, ARGOs, backhoes, dumpers and more are ready for you to get in the driver’s seat! Our little guys were too short to drive but they rode on our laps and got some good practice doing the steering. Want a chance to sit back and be driven?
Ride Spin Dizzy!
Oh Spin Dizzy! It definitely spins and I definitely got dizzy! One of our guys was slightly too short so I joined them and wow! This ride lifts you up and then spins you around – then back around the other way! It’s not for those with fear of heights or speed and these boys wanted to go on and on again and again. Next to Spin Dizzy are two more rides if you want a little less spin with your thrill; Sky Shuttle and Spin-A-Round. One gets you up in the air and one spins you around and both are fun.
Climb to unexpected heights!
I was pleasantly surprised to see the Rock Wall and Ropes Course at Diggerland USA. Other New Jersey amusement parks have these activities at an added cost but not Diggerland! The Rock Wall is 32 feet high and each side is a different course. Kids get strapped in and are free to climb – press the button at the top to sound off that you’ve made it! Want more challenge? The four story Ropes Course is seriously impressive. With ropes, balance beams and some seriously high heights kids will thrill while climbing, but parents might cringe while watching! No worries – they’re strapped in tight and are connected to the structure at all times.
These two are located next to the Kid Zone – a tall jungle gym open to all ages. Our boys spent well over an hour exploring all three areas! Since you’re not paying extra it’s a great way to let them test their ability – will they be afraid of heights? Do they have the upper body strength for the rock wall? Seeing the satisfaction when they conquer what they thought they couldn’t is worth the price of admission! There’s plenty of seating nearby for parents to hang out but of course, parents are welcome to climb as well. Height restrictions for these are 42″ but those who don’t quite reach can have an adult accompany them. Make sure you wear your closed toe shoes!
Only three things in all of Diggerland USA?
We don’t mean to suggest you should do three things and then leave, in fact you should get there early and plan to stay late! Of course there’s the daily stunt show, many more ride on opportunities, the arcade and the goats. Diggerland USA is truly a unique amusement park, the only construction-themed theme park in the United States, and you’ll want to do it all. I bet you’ll be planning your next visit before you even leave!
