Well August is upon us, but that does not mean summer is over yet! There are still plenty more things to check off of your summer “bucket” list! here are another 31 activities to add to that list, so you don’t waste a single minute!
August 1 – Farmer’s Fair and Balloon Fest (Warren County) This festival runs through August 6th. Kids rides, 4-H events, food, games, music, and of course hot air balloons! This is a must see!
August 2 – National Night Out (All Counties) Check with your town to see how they’re planning on celebrating National Night Out, and join in the fun! Need the info for your town? We have the list for you here.
August 3 – Family Fun Nights at the Turtleback Zoo (Essex County) Every Wednesday and Thursday during the summer, the Turtle Back Zoo remains open until 8 pm to allow families to come out to the zoo, enjoy live entertainment, a special dinner menu at our Zoo Cafe, and go wild with our animals! August 4 – Middlesex County Fair (Middlesex County) August 1-7 Rides, food, crafts, vendors and more. Check the website for ticket pricing and times. www.middlesexcountyfair.com
August 5, 6, 7 – Disney’s Cinderella Kid at the open air theater at Washington Crossing (Mercer County) Check website for showtimes and tickets at www.dpacatoat.com.
August 6 – Jersey City Rotary Food Truck and Music Festival (Hudson County) Music, Food and Fun! Open to the public and free to attend! For this and more food truck festivals, check out our blog post!
August 7 – Toothpick World Exhibit at Morris Museum (Morris County) With just toothpicks and Elmer’s Glue, artist Stan Munro constructs precise reproductions of architectural masterworks and world-renowned structures. Toothpick World features iconic American buildings such as the White House and the Empire State Building, and internationally celebrated structures such as Taj Mahal and the Eiffel Tower. The exhibition also includes local landmarks like Yankee Stadium. This exhibit is open until August 31. On August 7th, check out the toothpick workshop after your visit!
August 8 – Mommy and Me Painting at 7 Fine Arts (Hudson County) Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 12 pm and 1 pm, join us for a mommy and me painting session at 7 Fine Arts in Hoboken. 1st visit is free.
August 9 -Visit Sahara Sam’s Indoor/Outdoor Waterpark (Camden County) If you haven’t had a chance to check out all the new indoor and outdoor attractions new for 2016, now’s the time! The Beach Club will be open!
August 10 – Movies under the Stars Hoboken (Hudson County) Relax at Pier A. Park with your beach chair or blanket and enjoy the Manhattan skyline while watching The Peanuts Movie. Our Review of the Peanuts Movie
August 11 – Visit the Atlantic City Aquarium (Atlantic County) The aquarium, located in Gardeners Basin, is open all summer from 10 am-5 pm. Check the website www.acaquarium.com before you visit to plan around the live diver feeding show, exotic animal show, and even feed the stingrays in the touch tank!
August 12 – Trailside Friday Family Program in Mountainside (Union County). Trailside summer programs offer the perfect opportunity for adults and children of all ages to explore the out-of-doors while learning about nature. 10 am – 11:30 am.
August 13 – Food Trucks on the Waterfront – (Ocean County) Food, fun, and live music. 11 am-6 pm For more food truck events, check out our blog post.
August 14 – Kite Decorating Craft at Imagine That (Morris County). Kite Craft is available August 13 and 14. Check website for pricing and times. https://morristourism.org/events/weekend-crafting-at-imagine-that-13
August 15 – Visit Leamings Run Gardens (Cape May County). During August, Leaming’s Run Gardens becomes a mecca for ruby-throated hummingbirds who come to feed before they migrate south on their long annual journey. Open daily from 10 am-4 pm. www.leamingsrungardens.com
August 16 – Visit the Funny Farm Rescue (Atlantic County) Open Tuesdays and Sundays from 8 am-4 pm Come meet the animals that have been rescued by the Funny Farm. August 17 – Butterfly Tea Party at the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed (Mercer County). 10:30 am-12 pm Suggested for ages 3-10 Join the Teacher-Naturalists for a lesson about native butterflies and their life cycles. After a tour of the butterfly house, head into the fields to try to catch butterflies in your nets. Then return for a tea party of lemonade, sugar cookies and a story under the tent! Adults must stay with children. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
August 18 – Kiddie Beach Show at Jenkinson’s (Ocean County). Join us in front of Jenkinson’s Pier for kids variety shows featuring magicians, clowns, balloonists and more. Held every Sunday at 7 pm through the month. For more great activities at Jenkinson’s, click the link!
August 19 – Monsters on the Beach in Wildwood (Cape May County) Event runs through August 21. Come check out the monster trucks as they race through the sand on the beach in Wildwood. August 20 – LEAD Olympics (Atlantic County) Join your friends at the Egg Harbor City Lake for silly races, tug of war, and lots of other fun games. Sponsored by the Egg Harbor City Municipal alliance, and Egg Harbor City Kiwanis Club. Instructors will also talk to the kids about safety, fitness, living a healthy lifestyle,and saying “NO” to drugs. For more information, click here.
August 21 – Visit the Cohanzick Zoo (Cumberland County) Visit New Jersey’s First Zoo! Open daily from 9 am-5 pm. Cat Chat: Pumas and fishing cats show daily at 2 pm. For more details, check the website at www.cohanzickzoo.org.
August 22 – Visit the Written in the Rocks Fossil Exhibit at the New Jersey State Museum (Mercer County). The exhibition presents 10 unique fossil stories that offer intriguing clues about our ever-changing planet, how life on Earth has evolved and adapted… or gone extinct. August 23 – Harbor Safari (Cape May County) 10:30 am-12 pm. See Cape May’s beach and marsh habitat and learn about the wonder and beauty of the plants and animals found there with a marine biologist from the Nature Center of Cape May as your guide. Begins at the Nature Center of Cape May. Tickets available online or at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth.
August 24 – Visit the Popcorn Park Zoo (Ocean County) This unique zoo and animal rescue in Forked River is known for it’s popcorn! Guests can bring a bag of popcorn through the zoo and feed it to the animals as they explore. Read about our experience at the Popcorn Park Zoo. Open 7 days a week from 11 am-5 pm.
August 25 – Visit Diggerland! (Camden County) America’s only construction theme park!
August 26 – Summer Nights on Donaldson Farm (Warren County) 5 pm-9 pm Fridays. A neighborhood favorite! Relax and enjoy delicious farm fresh food, live music, and fun. Donaldson Farms produce will be featured in the menu created and prepared by local chefs. The kids will sleep great after pony rides, lawn games, and other activities. No entrance fee. August 27 – New Jersey Family Con at iPlay America (Monmouth County) This one of a kind family convention will have something for everyone. Representatives from Home Depot, Babies R’ Us, Michael’s and more will display products and services for all your families needs.
August 28 – Maywood Summertime Street Fair (Bergen County) 10 am – 5 pm Family fun, kiddie rides, live music, vendors, food trucks and more!
August 29 – Take the kids rollerskating for free at International Sports, Skating and Fun Centre in Mount Laurel (Burlington County). Register for the Kids Skate Free program and your kids can skate for free all summer at rinks across the state.
August 30 – Read and Pick program (apples) at Terhune Orchards (Mercer County). Read & Pick is an innovative program that combines hands on farm activity with your young child and listening to a story highlighting the fruit or farm area. Parents/guardians and young children (ages preschool to 8 years) are welcome.
August 31 – Take the kids bowling for FREE at University Lanes (Gloucester County). Register online for the free summer bowling program and your children can bowl for free through the summer at lanes across the state.
